Deep Inside

by Beautiful Chaos   May 13, 2007

If you never leave the surface,
You won't see what's below,
Hidden in layers, built by time,
And lessons of long ago.

These icy eyes conceal so much,
Look and you will see,
A flame that flickers deep within,
It waits to be set free.

Shallow waters give no clue,
Of the strength that I do hide,
The courage I keep locked up tight,
The truth found deep inside.

Wonder at my outer beauty,
But do not be deceived,
What is found within my depths,
Is worth more than believed.

First off, I loved the way you started this. From the first line, it already pulled me into it and made me want to read on. Then, your imagery was amazing...you explained everything and were able to create a vivid picture in my mind. And then there was your last stanza which wrapped it up perfectly.

This really goes well with the saying "Don't judge a person before you get to know them." Because, as you have stated throughout this poem, no one knows what strength you really have and deep inside there is that strength. Anyways, another awesome piece by you.

I really like this poem. Just as Adam said, the last stanza was pretty perfect, I must say!

Everything was great in this poem - it seems like it all just kind of fell together perfectly. I don't know if I'd change anything about it.
