When One is Gone

by Leandia Fortner   May 16, 2007

A cool breeze blew,
Kissing the delicate skin on my face,
Standing here, I realize how small the world really is,
Especially after the loss of a loved one,
Nothing seems the same anymore,
all the things that should be familiar,
have been lost, and replaced with emptiness.
That emptiness soon replaced by fear.

Now I must face the world alone,
with the memory in my heart,
Unsure of what lies ahead,
and whether or not I am strong enough to go on.
