Discarded Wings

by Joyce Lee salinis   May 25, 2007

Why do angels fall for me,
I am naughty, but a man,
miracles of light I see,
on the edge of shadows stand,

words of uneasy grace,
telling stories of the soul,
flashing smiles upon the face,
of the one who'd make me whole,

a rain of feathers,
as the demons rise to sing,
many pains are so weathered,
as angels clip their wings,

for a mere peddler of words,
whose life is spent in shadow,
my strangled voice unheard,
as I die alone and hollow.

    ...I dig this.

"Why do angels fall for me,
I am naughty, but a man,"

I was wondering which of the subject implies--whether angels are falling in love for him or falling on top of him literally? Then again, the former idea makes much more sense to me...

    "miracles of light I see,
on the edge of shadows stand,"

This couplet gave me an impression of hopefulness despite the obscuring darkness of one's spirit; it tugged my heart completely.

The second stanza was rather deep and by which is quite difficult for me to interpret, since it could be interpreted in any ways possible. But then again, as the subject starts to relate one's story to the unprejudiced reader, this particular line, "of the one who'd make me whole", makes me think that this person must be, indeed or perchance, significant--a loved one, a lover, or a divine being or etc...

Third stanza, it gave me a vision of sorrow and devastation. Wonderfully-written, poetical lines, I dare say.

Finally, the concluding stanza; it was absolutely poignant...an individual living a tedious life shunned, thrown away, and discarded...hopelessly unpromising...just my thoughts, anyway. My apologies if it's way off.

Overall, it was a pleasurable read. Thank you for sharing!
