Defeat the Weeds

by penny roe   Jun 5, 2007

Sitting, as the chair makes
A mark in my back.
The sun stares into my eyes.
I sit, warmed but its presence,
But still, I sit lonely at the table.
I'm surrounded by everyone.
They are talking,
Laughing,
Speaking,
Living,
But I am still,
As I wait.

I just wait for you to arise,
To take your place
Among the weeds I sit around.
they will pull you in,
And criticize your every effort
As they capture you
And pull you away
With their stickling thorns.

But wait, don't give in,
be strong, darling,
wait for our turn.

I know ow it feels,
I understand the pain,
And the sorrow,
Because each time I try
To move,
To adjust,
To change,,
I'm viewed as a killer
Seeking to devour their lives.

These thorny weeds
Which I sit around
Criticize me even as I mention you.
They try to keep us apart,
Not to let us grow together,
But each time they capture me,
And rip a piece of my heart, brutally,
I dive deeper and work harder to find a way to
Defeat them.

I will find a way,
I have the will,
But I need you
To be there.
Rise now,
and take your place, with me,
Among the thorny weeds.
