Princess

Sunlight gazed upon my face,
Rare but with a healthy glow,
The crickets will not stop singing,
Their joyous rants for me,
They are not near,
They are not here.
I am finally free,
I will fly away one day.

Alas, the king is near,
The castle seems to dim,
I will break free, one day.
He cannot bark orders,
If he cannot catch me,
I wander the castle,
If these walls could talk,
They couldn't tell much of a story.
They seem too bare to even breathe.
I stand in my quarter,
I sing and dance,
Now I can hear the shouting trumpeters,
Seem to be playing again,
Perhaps their playing was not pleasing,
Maybe, off a key or three.
My fingers seem to be longer, and my hair seems to be dark and thick,
I am not afraid of this palace being taken over,
I have broken free.
