Cold December {Terzanelle}

by dollwithafrown   Jun 19, 2007

December used to be my favourite month,
Bitter coldness was such an attraction;
December used to be my favourite month.

Adored you being my utter distraction;
Our bodies, so close, I could feel your heartbeat,
Bitter coldness was such an attraction.

So much like sugar; you were so sweet,
Whispering lullabies into my ear,
Our bodies, so close, I could feel your heartbeat.

My only wish is that you could have stayed here,
Instead I'm left with reflections of a past;
Whispering lullabies into my ear.

If only love could just last;
Together we would stay, forever,
Instead I'm left with reflections of a past.

Would I forget you? No, never.
December used to be my favourite month;
Together we would stay, forever,
December used to be my favourite month.

A Terzanelle is a 19 line poem consisting of five interlocking triplets plus a concluding quatrain in which the first and third lines of the triplet appear as refrains. The middle line of each triplet is a repetent reappearing as the last line of the succeeding triplet with the exception of the next-to-last stanza which appears in the quatrain.

    "Bitter coldness was such an attraction;"

    `I wondered if the foregoing line denotes a certain trait of someone. (Oh, well, I'll take it as how I interpreted it. Heh.) I actually am in favor with that line, for it made me tie with it my own fancies of aloof chaffs. A real nice line, by the way.

    In its technical aspects, I thought certain lines need tightening-up to *further enhance the flow. No big deal, really. 'twas still wonderful on the whole. :]

    Best wishes,

    I liked the whole poem. It's really sweet and not that sad even though it should be, you found the way so it would be sweet and romantic. My favorite line was

    Good job! 5/5
