Helpless Sympathy

by Rebecca   Jul 6, 2007

I see you standing there, so tall.
Push out of the black where others crawl.
Deep buried pain in the underground,
You hide the map; hope it's not found.

You comfort those who cry for you,
Bear your burden and theirs too.
I want to help you lift it off your back,
How high can all that hurt be stacked?

Wish I could let you see I care,
Steal some pain since you won't share.
Standing back, guilt spilling, silent floor.
I'm useless here, I can't do more.

I fall apart, you hold it in.
A tear can't fall that's never been.
Strength that draws me to your side,
How is it that you never cried?

Passing now, I'll just go.
Say goodbye before hello.
My shadow's moving, so am I,
Can't find your pain so I won't try.

I guess you'll never know the way,
my heart bore your scar today.
Think everything I left unsaid,
is bleeding through these words instead.
