How to Love Someone Like Me...

by RetroRavey   Jul 12, 2007

Do you remember how to love someone like me?
It's been so long
since the storm passed...
And the tears fell from the clouds
covering the sun...
You never did like the dark.

We fell so far so fast...
Kissing embers of the fire,
we knew would never last.
And dreams descend,
breaking and clattering
on the kitchen floor...
Like the knife that almost ended us...

Do you remember how to love someone like me?
It's been so long
since you've dealt with all I've got...
Can you take it back,
and go back to what we were?
You never did like it before.

We fell down the stairs and laughed,
until we fell for real and I
collapsed upon that floor,
where knives and glass both shattered...
Reality caved in,
and I knew I wasn't right...
I wasn't okay,
and then you went away.
(I died that night.)

Do you remember how to love someone like me?
Having to hold me through withdrawal,
kissing my bleeding wrists
goodbye, goodnight.
Can you love me all the same?
Like way before the pain.
Before the blood upon
the kitchen floor
and knives and glasses end...

Do you remember how to love someone like me?
Someone who needs help,
needs to be set free.
Do you remember the last time you loved me?
When pain came tumbling down on us,
and all I had to give was love.
Do you remember
why you would want to?
