A Lover's Paradox

by Scott Nickel   Jul 14, 2007

With vengeance my heart does beat
Against ambition in her eyes
For she's the one I cannot meet
So I begin these foolish lies
Altering to my twisted cries

First betraying her innocence
With scorns and scowls awry
Yet within I find I know little since
She made my heart to wonder why
And left me my tears to dry

Oh what mad convictions I did weave
With these crooked sneers and sighs
So that I give to sincerely believe
For the root of sanity thus relies
Against what all reason defies

Her radiance taunts my restless dreams
While my madness struggles to fly
But falls within reason's seams
For her embrace left resolve to die
And our hearts upon hers rely

For it sat upon fate's merciless hand
The first time I set her in my eye
That her love I could not ever land
Fate climaxing my caustic lie
That left me my tears to dry
That left me my tears to dry.
