Nice Guys

by Matt   Jul 28, 2007

When he came upon her sitting there
Her eyes were water red
With black lines of run mascara on her cheeks
She looked up at him with such disdain
But he had never done anything to hurt her
He was always in the background
Always there to catch her before she fell
And to support her when she was too weak
He lived his life in the shadows
Seen at the beginning, but eventually faded
The words he said were always in support
Of some other suitor, fairer than he
On some scale, better, stronger, smarter
But he knew his worth, always faithful
And always wary of action
He didn't understand her anger toward him
Until she started to voice the problems to him again
Like a skipping record, always the same
But that's how life goes, doesn't it?
We all make the same mistakes and overlook
The simple answers because they're easy
And the situations seem to big to be dealt with as such
So he sat down and listened to the stories
One more time, it never killed anyone
At least never on the outside...
