Dry Blood and Bone

by Claire   Aug 6, 2007

Climbing the last stone steps in life
Gasping for breath
Weapon at my side
My blood ridden hand clutching the top
This hand reaches for death

I'm the last one standing
Death lying either side
Bodies that stole my heart
My dignity
My pride

The ones who died before me
That left me alone
All they deserve
Dry blood and bone

Wings on my back trimmed
Held down with no room to grow
As the lights are dimmed
All I know

I'm the last one standing
Death lying either side
Bodies that stole my heart
My dignity
My pride
They left me alone
With their dry blood and bone

Taking one last breath
He shuts my eyes
Restoring my dignity
Restoring my pride

I've finished my battle
As I wait for death

Now I march blindly to rest
Wings cut off
Life cut off
Marching freely as one

I was the last one standing
Death either side
No dignity or pride
I was the last one

I am now part of them
As I lie at your side
Taking your dignity
Stealing your pride

I died before you
I left you alone
As you can see
My dry blood and bone

Now it's your turn
He shuts your eyes
Your battle is over
Drop your weapon
Death is your prize
