Alive again

by jj   Aug 9, 2007

She lies there, dead
stiff as my tongue right now
pale as if she's
seen her own ghost
ha ha
maybe she has
but wait
the dented chrome starts humming
the rusted gears start turning
i am filled with joy
and wonder
who put all that into her?
not i
her brother
i watch as she sits up
eyes still closed
and i watch her
breath in
then cough out rust
the orange stuff
flies out of her mouth
and i watch.
she looks at me
her whole face a question
and then looks away
ashamed for some reason
i reach out a hand
and she jumps back
jumps up
and runs.
she is alive.
