For My Dearest Dad

by KELLY EDWARDS   Aug 26, 2007

Dad I love you more than words can say,
my love and loyalty for you will never stray.
Please know that you mean the world to me,
forever your daughter I always want to be.

I know you're hurting and I hurt with you too,
that John has been in touch and ripped you in two.
He is not a threat to you and I hope you can see,
that he's my father but my Dad he can never be.

I would like to meet him soon one day,
a part in my life he would like to play.
Your blessing and understanding I hope for,
safe in my love I cannot reassure you no more.

Your Everloving Daughter Kelly

*I wrote this for my Dad to reassure him. He is devastated and feeling threatened that my natural father, John, has made contact after 28 years. He walked away from me and my mother before I was born. My dad has been there since before I was born. I would welcome your comments, suggestions before I plan to present this poem to my Dad in about a weeks time.
