She

by selene   Oct 2, 2007

She walks into a cave
with shaven locks and a busted lip
and i can't help feeling,
longing to be inside of her
to be the creature, cowering in a nook
cut out from the shore

she closes her eyes and tears
tremble down her self-assured cheeks
and though she knows herself
better than most of us
she feels shaken
her life is a mystery

our eyes crawl across her skin
envy pushing forward
with knees drawn up to dark sockets
rocking, rocking, rocking
she doesn't deserve this
but it's entertaining

she sees things different than us
no color lighting the night
and the sun, how it burns
into her flesh, piercing new slits
she hangs her head
the noose draws taught
