CULTURAL AMBITION

I'm a strong Asian girl,
living in a mostly white society.
I'm meant to be a classy pearl,
Intelligent like education's my priority
Not meant to have ambition,
No matter how much I learn
Every single day I get in more and more inspiration
And I want to be a writer, maybe even politician.
I want to adopt from 10 different cultures
I want to travel the world, learn different literature.
I'm not suppose to do any of that
I'm meant to be married forever arranged
Staying at home, to cook, clean and crap
I want to break free and parents to change
It's going to be the hardest thing ever
I know my mum will hate me forever
I want to marry an artist or a poet
I am a Muslim girl, and everyone knows it.
I should get on with it, but I'm going to refuse it,
I'm intelligent, classy and Asian and I'll use it.
I'm not going to hide, or put myself aside.
I'm not going to let the world pass my by
I'm going to put myself out there and will survive.
I'm going to fight against wrong and racism
Not going to be put down by discrimination.
I'm going to be remembered, I'm going to be heard
Call me crazy with hate, call me absurd
Think of all Asian girls, with potential to be,
When I inspire them to break free
Changing the world, changing Asian culture, remember no-one but me cared
Hopefully I'll make my family understand
Hopefully my mum also can..
