Monotony

by Danae Lenz   Oct 29, 2007

An endless road
miles upon miles of prairie on either side.
Still, I drive.
I try to find a different way to go.
I beg for someone to rescue me from my monotony.
Drip, drip drip.
Drip, drip, drip.
Change your rhythm.
Change your tone.
It's driving me to insanity.
The unwritten laws say:
you must write left to right.
Well, what if I wish to write right to left?
Which order-maintainer will come after me?
Such shameless monotony.
Thrum, thrum, thrum,
the beat of a drum.
It pounds in my head,
pushing, pushing me.
Ah, life.
Since when did you lose your luster?
When did you cease to shine?
When did you become like a heart monitor
beep, beep, beep,
until the day that you die?
