Where Were You When We Were Getting High

by Beautiful Chaos   Nov 22, 2007

Wandering the street,
Drowning out the pain,
Draped in liquid courage,
Dancing in the rain.

Friends turn into family,
Find a common cause,
Everyone accepts it,
Exploiting all the flaws.

Think you've found some meaning,
But acid eats the mind,
Pot sedates and cocaine hates,
You've fallen way behind.

Mom and dad, they're working,
You think that they don't care,
But you don't see mom crying,
Every second you're not there.

And you don't see the blame,
That dad wears in his eyes,
When he sees his little girl,
Embracing her demise.

Did you forget about me?
I lived in that house too,
The loving home it was to me,
Was just a place to you.

You hated rules and made it known,
Ran at every turn,
Because you couldn't make it,
Someone else must burn.

You made these choices on your own,
You let yourself down,
Though the thorns may cut your head,
Sweet sister wear your crown.

I mean this in no uncertain terms ... I want your mind! You simply have a way with words that beggars belief.

I thankfully have never been to the place you are describing here, but I have had far too many friends taken, not only to these depths you describe, but far deeper still. It not only becomes a mindset, but a way of life for people living this way.

If you haven't experienced it for yourself (unfortunately I think you have; with your sister maybe?) you can read into it with more than normal comprehension. If you have lived it, you describe it so perfectly it's almost a cry for help.

Simple lines with ~extremely~ powerful words make this a really sharp stab in the side of a life-style that devastates millions.

    Wonderfully written .. yet again!
