That Night

by Viola   Nov 25, 2007

Sometimes I look in the mirror into blue eyes I don't recognize
Staring in utter disbelief; "It's not me I see."
I'm almost tormented by the hurt inside them

That night I looked in your eyes
And the blankness in them hit me like a thousand knives

And I was sitting alone on the cold bus as it went by
Lands I've travelled on quite a few times, it had never looked that lonely before

You laughed, few seats ahead, I could hear your cheerful voice
While I cried tears that shined with the stars

You said you love the way it looks when it snows
As you looked back at me, and I forced a smile

Sometimes I'd like to think you don't know me at all
And even if I'm wrong, it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth

That night I walked home to a full moon that sank in my grief
It lit up the dark night sky, the only thing leading me home

That night I looked in your eyes
And the blankness in them hit me like a thousand knives
Even more so, than when I look into my own saddened eyes
