Eli had a pretty good life. She had almost everything that she had ever wanted! She had a really big house, really nice friends, a great boyfriend, and her family, that loved her very much. She had always gotten everything that she had ever wanted. When she was five, she got the biggest Barbie dream house that she wanted. When she was seven, she told her mom she wanted a pony. That year for her birthday, she got a pony. When she was eight, she got a new baby sister, that she had wanted. When she was thirteen, she got EVERYTHING that she wanted for her birthday. She got a gift card for every store that she liked, she got a new horse stable with four horses and two I-Pod nanos. When she turned sixteen, she got everything that she wanted again. She got a yellow Lamborghini, and the best birthday party ever. She got everything she wanted, except for one thing, that she had ALWAYS wanted.....her dad. She knew that she could never see him, but she never knew why. Her mom had always told her that it was because her dad didnâ??t like where they lived, so he moved. She knew that that wasnâ??t true. She knew that there was more to that story than what she was telling her. That is where my story starts, when Eli goes wondering around, for the OTHER half of the story.
Eli lived in California and she LOVED it there. She loved the people, the great aroma, the mist of the ocean, she loved the stores and restaurants, and just the whole thing about it. She loves her mom, and her boyfriend, and all of her friends. What she would love the most is to meet her dad, just once and she would be happy. She had always said that she doesnâ??t have to like him once she meets him, and she is pretty sure that she wonâ??t love him. She said that she didnâ??t care though, because she doesnâ??t want to go there to live with him, she is going there to meet him, and if she does like him, she will go from there. If she doesnâ??t, then she wonâ??t.
This is where Eliâ??s adventure starts, in a little town in California. Her dad lived in a really big town in Maine. That is a really big separation, and she didnâ??t know how she was ever going to find him in such a big city, but she didnâ??t care. She knew that she was going to find him some how. She hasnâ??t told her mom, or any of her friends that she was going to go, but she was going to do it. She didnâ??t care what everyone else said, she was going to find him, and she was going to have fun doing it!
Eli started to pack up all of her things. She took one suitcase, and filled it with her clothes. She took another suitcase, an even bigger one, and filled it with food. She didnâ??t think that she needed anything else, but she grabbed her cell phone and a portable CD
player. She said that when she gets off the first stop from the plane, she would call her mom, and tell her not to worry, that she would be okay. She also grabbed a little bit of money from her life savings, she grabbed $10,000. Now, that is only a SMALL fraction of her life savings, just a SMALL fraction. Like I said, she had ALWAYS gotten everything that she had ever wanted, including money!
So she headed out to the airport....only to find that the plane was delayed. She was really mad and instead of getting REALLY mad, she just read a book. She started to read â??The Lightning Thiefâ?? by Rick Riordan. She liked that book a lot, it was one of her favorites.
The plane came one and a half hours later. She sat in 1st class, seat A 17. She sat next to a middle aged man, who was on the right, and a girl....who looked about 14, sat on the left. She started talking to her,â??Hey, my name is Eli, whatâ??s your name?â??
â??My name is Hannah Woods. Why are you on the plane all by your self?â??
â??Well, I have never met my dad before, so I went out to see him.â??
â??Oh, I am sorry! And yes, I am on the plane all by myself. I am because my mom had to go to Europe for her work, and I went with her on Summer vacation. Now, it is time to go back to school, and I had to go back to Maine, because that is where I live. I have never met my dad either...but I donâ??t want to see him. My mom says that he left because he couldnâ??t handle the pressure. So, my mom has raised me ever since I was born.â??
Eli replied, â??Oh, I am sorry to hear that! I am going to Maine too! But what I donâ??t understand, is why donâ??t you want to see him? I mean, I have never even seen a picture of my dad, and my mom never talks about him, but I would still LOVE to see my dad! I
mean, he is why I am here today!â??
Hannah then brought in a REALLY good point, â??Well, I have been doing really well without my dad my whole life, and I think that I can go the rest of it without seeing him! And, I donâ??t want to see him because I mean, what if MORE pressure gets on him, will he quit on his only family AGAIN? And, like....well, have you ever heard the expression, â??Itâ??s Hard To Love What You Never Haveâ??? Well, I think that that is really true, I mean, I donâ??t know about you, but I donâ??t love my dad. How can you love someone that you have never met, never wanted to be around you, or someone that will never, or has never been there for you? Well, that is how I feel about my dad, and unless he does something to change that, that is how it is going to stay.â??
â??I see what you mean, and I have thought that before too. But, it is hard for me NOT to love my dad because, I mean, he is my dad, and he is the one that WANTED to have me. I mean, my mom did too, but I guess that it was my dadâ??s idea to have a kid. So, he is
KIND OF the one that brought me into this world.â??
Hannah said, â??My dad didnâ??t want to have a kid....I guess that it just happened, you know? But I donâ??t really care, because I mean...he was never there, and I donâ??t ever want him to be.â??
That is when the flight attendant came on the intercom, and announced, â??We are having some technical difficulties. Please stay seated at all times, or until we tell you otherwise. Thank you for your cooperation, and we should be gladly landing in
Miami, Florida shortly.â??
Eli turns to Hannah, and states, â??I thought that this plane was going to California?â??
Hannah turns to her and says, â??Yea, it is.â??
Eli looks at Hannah awkwardly for a couple of seconds and then says, â??I thought that the flight attendant just said that we were headed to Miami, Florida?â??
Hannah takes a second to respond, and then finally comes out with, â??WHAT IS GOING ON? I DONâ??T GET IT!! WHAT SHOULD WE DO? I HOPE THAT THIS ISNâ??T ONE OF THOSE SCHEMES WHERE YOU HAVE TO JUMP OFF THE PLANE WITH A PARACHUTE, OR DIE!â??
â??Hannah, calm down! Itâ??s okay, weâ??ll just get off at Miami, and get on another one to Maine, itâ??s no big deal!â??
â??Maybe not for you! I donâ??t have any money to just SIMPLY get on another plane to Maine! Do you know how much money that is?! Well, itâ??s a lot, a LOT that I donâ??t have!â??
â??Itâ??s okay, Iâ??ll pay for you,â?? Promised ELi.
Hannah looked strangely at Eli, â??You have enough money to do that? You would do that for me?!â??
Eli look at her like she is stupid, â??YEA! Of course I would! And yes, I have enough money for that.â??
â??THANK YOU SO MUCH ELI! I REALLY APPRECIATE IT,â?? said Hannah with a REALLY big smile on her face!
â??Any time, I mean, what are friends for?â?? asked Eli with a chuckle.
â??Thank-you! You donâ??t know how much that means to me!â??
â??Uh-huh,â?? murmured Eli.
The next fifteen minutes there was DEAD SILENT! Until finally someone yelled something that sounded like â??Get out of here!â??
Eli was kind of scared because she has seen those scary movies where someone screams that, or something
like that and they they all just like, die suddenly. So she was pretty scared when she heard a woman's voice scream like someone was hurting her. She was thinking, â??Oh My GOD! That is like in the movies, where someone screams for a cry of help, and then no
one is ever there to help, so she just dies.â??
Luckily, there wasn't anyone getting hurt, the flight attendant was chasing a bee out of the window. There was a three year old child on the plane, and she was allergic to bees. Not just that, but they didnâ??t want a bee on the plane!
Hannah turns to her and says, â??I am bored.â??
Eli looks at her and states very rationally, â??I know, I am too....â?? Eli looks out the window, and sees what she thought was a really big bird go by the window. At first she thought that it wasn't anything bad, and then she kept seeing more and more go by the second. She finally said something to Hannah.
â??Hey Hannah,â?? Eli starts to say, but she sees that Hannah has fallen asleep, and she didnâ??t want to wake her up. So she just left her there, and didnâ??t say anything.
About forty-five minutes later, the flight attendant decided to go by everyone and ask if they wanted anything. Eli told her that she would like a pillow and a glass of water, with a please at the end. The flight attendant said, â??Certainly,â?? and continued down the isle, asking everyone else what they wanted. She asked the bald man in front of hannah and Eli and he said that he wanted a package of pretzels. She brought him pretzels. As a matter of fact, she brought three packages to him. Also to everyone else besides Hannah
and her self. When she was about to leave, to get the last person in the isle a pillow, Eli was very frustrated. She wondered why everyone else got what they wanted, and all Eli wanted was a pillow for Hannah, and a water for herself!
The attendant came back, with two pillows in her hand, and Eli was thinking that one of them was for her. SHE THOUGHT WRONG because they both ended up being for that lady. Now Eli was very angry and said something to the attendant, â??Ummm excuse me Ms., but a little while ago I asked for a pillow and a glass of water, and you have given everyone elseâ??s theirs. I was just wondering if you were going to give me mine....?
â??Oh, yea sorry about that maâ??am! I Must have forgotton what you wanted! What was it, that you wanted, anyway?â??
â??Well, I did want a glass of water and a pillow. But, now I am thinking that I would MUCH rather have two pillows and a glass of water, if you could do that for me,â?? Eli said with a very convincing, â??Please.â?? at the end.
The woman soon came back with not two, but three pillows, without a glass of water. Eli was tired, and wanted to sleep, so she greatfully took the pillows, said thank you, and fell asleep.
Where'd you go? I miss you so, Seems like it's been forever, That you've been gone....
That is suddenly what Eli heard in her dream. She knew what it was. It was a song she knew from Fort Minor. But she didnâ??t know why she heard it. She was hearing that song when she saw a shadowey figure coming towards her. She had a pretty good idea that is was a man, seeming as how â??heâ?? had short hair with a baseball cap on. â??Heâ?? was walking towards her, lit up by the sunset.
She was scared that it was her dad, that something happened to him and he was going to her, singing his favorite song. She felt like that was his favorite song, she KNEW that it was, but she didnâ??t know HOW she knew. She was scared becuase she didnâ??t know why she knew that, but she knew as a fact, that was his favorite song before he died. And that was what scared her the most. That she now knew that her dad is dead. That he HAS been dead, and now she just realizing it, and she doesnâ??t know why. She was scared
that he killed himself when Eli was born, KILLED himself, becuase of Eli. She knew that he did, and that was the part that scared her the most. That she KNEW that he died, and that her mom just never told her. She just...knew it!
Suddenly, she woke up. Hannah was gone and there was nothing there. It was like she was NEVER there. Her luggage was gone and so wasnâ??t her pillow. The only thing that was left was a CD. Eli didnâ??t know what it was, but she saw it there. So she sticks it
into her portable CD player. It was music. It was a familiar melody, but the words were different. It sounded like this:
Whereâ??d you go? I was never here, I will always be with you, no matter where you go......
Eli then knew. She then knew everything that has been going through he mind. She knew her dad. She knew that her dad died when she was born. She then knew that Hannah wasnâ??t real, that Hannah, was actually her dad. That Hannah Woods was actually Bill Evans. Eli Elizabeth Evans now knew her dad, and was very excited.
â??ELI?â?? A female voice called, stretching out the E part in Eli.
â??Eli? Where are you hunny? Please answer me if you can hear me!â?? Eli then realized that that was her mom calling her. She decided that she wasnâ??t going to answer her becuase she didnâ??t know what was going on. That is when Eliâ??s mom, Anne, came in and said, â??There you are Eli! I have been looking all over for you!â??
Eli said, â??Mom, you have avoided this my whole life, and now I want to know the truth, and the COMPLETE truth. Mom, I want to know about Bill Evans. Mom, I want to know about my dad.â??
Eli's mom looks at her and says, "Hunny, you are 16 now, and yes, I think that you are right. You should be learning the truth about your dad. Eli, your dad, Bill, he was killed in a car crash on the way back from the hospital two days after you were born. I didn't want to tell you before becuase I thought that you were too young. I am sorry that I didn't tell you sooner. I know that I should have becuase now I regret not telling you. I feel so bad, and that is why I didn't want to tell you. I didn't want you to feel as bad as I do right now." Anne reached out her hand, and pulled Eli's hair out of her face, where little tears were strolling down. Eli looks at her mom and said,
"Mom, I feel like I should be mad at you, but I am not. I am a little dissapointed that you have never told me that MY dad died 16 years ago. I am okay that you didn't tell me though. Becuase the saying does go....'BETTER LATE THEN NEVER'! So thank you, Mom. Thank you for finally telling me the truth." Eli slipped her head into her mom's arms, and started singing.
I miss you so, Seems like it's been forever, That you've been gone. Where'd you go? I miss you so, Seems like it's been forever, That you've been gone, Please come back home.....Please come back home.....Please COME back HOME.....
