Prairie Girl

by Soulful Ensemble   Dec 28, 2007

The girl of the prairie, she jogs in place,
She looks around and nobody's there.
But I'm thinking of you baby, so keep up the pace,
Time is moving back wards and I don't know a prayer.

I'm coming soon to see you,
To find out that you're not through
And ask you if you knew
That my love for you was starting anew.

I see you now prairie girl;
Your eyes shinning through the whirl wind.
When I arrive I want to see you pinned,
To see how you unfurl,
And tell you that I've found my world.

I came to your farm-- rode my pony there,
She was white, with no stains, and would someday be a pure mare.
I ran into a fight along the way and was scared
When I won I had to stop a while-- I needed care.

All along the way I saw the tanks drive by,
They were going the way I came, to start a war tonight.
They waved at me and smiled, and I said "goodbye",
When they were out of the way I asked myself, "why?"

I was nearly there, I could smell her golden hair,
The blooming lilies on the bed glared,
But darkness surely came when the sound of thunder blared,
And I shivered at the thought of rain there
Falling on the town square and killing all the flowers if it dared.

"Maybe I'll never make it, prairie girl", I said,
"Maybe I'm weak and weakness spreads",
"But if I don't make it to you, theres a morgue ahead,"
"So you can bury me close to your tool shed."

Just then she walked to me, and her warm aura spread,
I could see her eyes glisten like blue spheres in her head.
And she said, "hey, don't fret, you broke a sweat and came ahead,"
"You know I love you and I'm glad we met,"
"Now take your mare inside, she's getting wet."
I looked up at my pony and realized she was no more,
She had grown up and become much more.
I asked myself, "whose going to take me back to the war?"
But then I realized I didn't want to go anymore,
I had a place with the prairie girl down by the shore.
