You Don't Know How To Love, And Have No Time To Learn

by Soulful Ensemble   Dec 28, 2007

What should you note or quote about love?
You, who know nothing of the sort,
You, who taint the very word by looking up at the sun with eyes closed.
How many times have you broken hearts and marred souls?
Do you even know what it feels like to burn coal?

Take your Sunday morning stroll down by the beach,
With the fancy dogs you carry by a leash.
Do you know where you're looking when you walk the street?
Or is it they that point the way to go when you're on your feet?
From where I sit, I don't really care, I just hope for your defeat.

Napoleon was your boyfriend but you destroyed him
And left him out, homeless: an orphan stinking of gin.
Drinking life away, and running out of of time,
His very last thoughts were forgotten lullabies.
"Whats the point of life?" he says, while he says goodbye.

How do you taint everything you clutch, with your greedy eyes and forgotten scorn?
You, Medusa, are looking for the Midas touch,
And do not care if you have to kill for the crown of thorns
That sits in peace up on the tree of life, that isn't doing much.

Yes. No. Maybe.
Who really cares for answers?
The questions are more important, baby,
Because your replies are already memorized as empty.

Why do you make so much noise upstairs, late at night?
How do you pretend to care when you're looking for a fight?
Where did you go that nobody can find you, even in the light?
Will you ever answer with a true reply?
Or do you have no time for what you think is trite?
I gave you another chance but you only love yourself, in spite.

Keep on quoting Shakespeare and his words of love,
As for your poetry, where does it come from?
You know nothing of compassion, you're like a glove,
Covering the facts you don't want to show
And wearing all the colors you wish to become.
