A Nightmare

by Shaikha MB   Dec 28, 2007

Waking from a dream,
Wanting to scream,
Trying to get up and run,
My heart like a drum,
Fear fills me,
Sorrow embraces me,
Nightmares call me,
Only a loved one wakes me.

Tears fill my eyes,
As I remember each person who lies
Each person I see that dies.

Late at night,
Dark and without any light,
Alone in the snow,
Laying extremely low,
It hunts me,
It will not rest till it gets me,
Full of fear,
Trying not to shed a tear,
For it might hear,
Cold and lonely I lay in the snow,
Holding a arrow and a bow,
My hair covers my face,
My dress trimmed with lace.

I can see only its eyes,
Traitorous filled with lies,
Blazing red,
Searching for the undead,
Fires burning,
People screaming,
Children crying,
They run but it hunts them,
It’s determined to get them,
It will get them,
There's no escape,
No where to run,
No where to hide.

There we are,
In the cold dark night,
In the snowy thick forest,
Face to face,
I shall not run,
I shall not cry,
But I will strike hard,
Aiming for its heart!

Death is upon us,
Like night is upon day,
When something reassures us,
That we shall both soon fade away!
