Down Below

by Viola   Jan 2, 2008

No there's nothing holding me
It's so empty down here
Can't you see?
There's a bulldozer tearing the ground
Above me now
So loud, so excruciatingly loud
That's why I hide here
Can't you see?
Come sit with me for a while
I'll make you feel my pain
Drink it out of the brass fountain
Like cold rain
I'll wash your skin now
Clean up the bruises
You have my blood smudged on your face
Let me get that for you
It's so lonely down here
Can't you see?
Won't you just sit with me
For a while
Remind me to forget these thoughts
Later when you leave out the door
I don't want a trace of them
Lingering in my head
I don't want another memory of us
No please
There's so many piled in that corner
I'm trying to make them disappear
Like wrinkles on a shirt
That's been lying in the bottom of your closet
There's just so many
So you ask in a polite voice
"How have you been?"
I don't think you see me at all
Never could decipher
What my eyes were telling you
Love
Now I think you must leave
I'm getting tired
And you're looking somewhere in the distance
As if waiting for the moment
She'll be in your arms again
Get out, leave
You're disturbing the stillness of my heart
I think you're waking it up again
I've already laid it to sleep
Don't make me do it again
So walk out
Get out of here
Can't you see?
How empty it is down here
No there's nothing holding me
Your love was the first layer to be destroyed
A slam, the door is closed
It's quiet again
Only the slightest noise leaking from underneath
Hush now, no more
He's gone
Sleep
Sleep
Sleep
