Sweetness

Multi-colored shoelace losses;
addiction to bright lights and neon signs.
Dreaming beneath a tie-dyed sky
of smoke and broken sunshine.
The pavement cracks with whispered threats
accumulated over the years.
Love and loss displayed so openly
in her fairy face.
The wall of the convenience store her canvas.
Innocence in her smile.
See how quickly you can make it fade
with your hands on her chest
and your mouth near her ear.
You whisper dizzying prophecies and
wind strings of beauty around her.

Her tiny hips sway and break the silence
behind your eyes.
Her neck arches
and the porcelain nearly breaks,
shatters and ricochets off
the steel of your intentions.
Cold and unwilling.
She can stay awake for you
beneath an onyx sky
of winking stars and black infinity.
Biting her tongue,
she keeps her ponderings safe inside herself
where no one cares to go;
where she can get lost in the endless thoughts,
crystalline mementos of the places
she's been inside her mind.

Light and free,
beauty and fragility,
twisting and oh so simple.
Rewinding a moment in her head,
repetition of all she wants to believe.
She wants to believe the truth you utter
so daintily through her soul.
Keep the truths safe,
never think of them too much.
She wouldn't want constant visitation
to tarnish their meaning.

The realization that they are lies
will snap her lovely smile
and force her to rethink
all she ever was.
Gorgeous and unwanted.
Small and forgotten.
High-heeled reality can be brutal.
Skies clouded with dismay and betrayal.
