My heart

by Jamie Ryanne   Jan 6, 2008

My heart is a treasure
That is buried under sand
Cemented from the pressure
The situations I cant withstand
The pieces stuck together
To once again break apart.
My hidden treasure
My gold, my heart

My heart is my own
And its not for sale.
You cant earn it with a kiss
Or a few sweet sounding words
Its not for the greedy
The naive
Or the unwise

My heart is a castle
With moats surrounding its sides.
Dangers of the unknown
Creep with every step
Is it worth this
Are you ready for this test

Your attempts will be foiled
With the batting of my eyes
With the flipping of my hair
Muffled by my sighs
You cannot crack this chained down fortress.
Battered and dirty from war.
These walls cannot be penetrated.
Rock solid, this armored car.
My gold, my heart.

My blood runs golden through it,
Changing with the tides
Not fooled by these tales you tell
These god forsaken lies
These never ending stories,
Of twists turns and dead ends.
But what can I do
Can I make these mends.

Can I fix whats been broken
So many times before
Can I glue together these pieces
That have been shattered on this floor.
I watch the pieces fall,
I watch the chunks break
I laugh under my breath
What a huge mistake

I knew this was gonna happen
As it had before
Why didnt I catch my gold
Before it hit the floor.
Catch like I always said I would
Pick it right back up
Pop it back into its chest
And just forget the rest

I shouldve given up while I was ahead.
thats what they always told me
thats what they always said
Why didnt I listen
To the warnings that were so clear
My heart was closed to the danger, it didnt want to hear.

It wanted to love
For thats what hearts do
It wanted to be the one
Hoping his heart would care too.
Though my heart figured out
He was just a petty fool.
Nothing more than a look a like
Of what is really true.

My heart realized
His heart was a copy
A simple rock is all it was.
Cold, black and bumpy
Not willing to love as all hearts can
He was the rock that made the sand
That buried my heart,
He supplied the pressure
For my heart to grow
Its shine turned to luster
My heart became priceless
Under this rock
He made my heart whole,
He made this heart gold.
