Why not?

by Danielle Dunn   Jan 9, 2008

You ask me why,
I ask why not,
find the oblivion
I've often sought?

I loved deeply once,
and was betrayed,
the pain of which
has yet to fade.

Each cut, so shallow,
Brings another.
One for a lover,
sister, mother.

One cut for you,
for each unshed tear,
for the pain,
for all held dear.

One because
I used to care,
one for all
the times we shared.

Droplets fall,
to form a flood.
a body sings,
the song of blood.

You each ask why?
Why me? Why now?
If not like this,
then well, how?

Alone in life,
alone in death,
"I loved you"
Sighs my final breath.
