My Final Performance

by Danielle Dunn   Jan 9, 2008

One final performance
My one desire
too many secrets
I take to my grave
Was I happy?
Did i laugh once?
Painted smiles,
on bone dry lips?
Laughter and joy,
in cold dead eyes?
Wilting flowers,
In a ghostly embrace,
My final performance
as the one you know.
The writer, the reader,
the artist, the dancer,
My final performance,
the one the truth.
The smiling corpse,
decay masked by sweetness,
sadness swathed in joy,
so many shades of darkness
each one slowly headed
towards my final performance.
