The Count Of Dreary Meadows

by Soulful Ensemble   Jan 12, 2008

Lovers who entreat each other do arise early in the morning
To see if they can find each other, like they do by every night.
Their questions are long and take much labor in the making
Because they're embarrassed of their love that seems so bright.

What do you see from here, where the black smog has taken over?
I don't care for now-- I care for tomorrow; but I see, from here, a cold dark tower.
Romeo asks, and they all answer, that his Juliet is at the tip of this pillar that looms
So then he goes, ignoring all the basic rules, to find his flower that blooms.

The road does curl and push through the upward-curving roads above
That dash through the fiery mountain with a haunting roar.
Romeo says to himself: "she's my one true love"
"I gotta travel against the heavy, breaking wind and learn to soar".

Romeo thought of how he once held her in his arms,
And realized how much he had.
He swore to get to her-- although people did give alarms
Telling him to stay behind and sad.

He climbed a mountain and yelled down the rocks
And the valley did hear his words:
"If you have someone you love, don't throw her in a box"
"You'll regret the loss of your happy, morning birds."

After alarming them all back, he felt relieved and left
His trip was far ahead of him, and he wouldn't sleep this evening.
"What a funny day it'll be", he said, "I have to commit a theft:"
"To steal my love-- no-- I'm only taking her back, there is no stealing."

The rivers stopped flowing as he stepped into them, walking over,
And the rocks did move out of the way as he traveled up wards to the sky.
He knew he was coming closer to his one and only lover,
And his heart knew it, as it became warmer, looking at what looked in sight.

In the small balcony where his Juliet lay,
High in the looming dark tower.
A golden light did shine through and may
Just be what showers his soul with flowers
To help him continue his journey through the day.

Up in the distance, that he would soon reach,
A beast roared down from its fiery cage.
When he passed by it, it did burst and breach
But Romeo wasn't scared and a war he did wage.

He told the beast about love and of what he'd been missing,
And that he could never feel the gentle touch of kissing.
He also explained how it felt inside, to be warmed by somebody's heart,
And know you're not alone to do your part.

The horrible beast was, at first, perplexed,
But then he let the truth seep in, making his emotions spill.
He felt, angry, confused, and sad, screaming: "what's next?"
And then leaped right off the side of the tall hill.

Romeo walked for miles and reached the cold dark tower,
And the dreary meadows all around it filled his lungs with smog.
He put his hand into his pocket and brought forth a flower
And it swallowed all the smoke, turning darkness into a dying fog.

After putting down his dead flower,
He passed through the tall gates of the cold tower.
Looking up the long, spiraling stairs he yelled: "Hey! Where are you lover?"
And, hearing her voice yell back, he began to run over.

Romeo reached the top to find
A steal door with his love behind.
He presses his hand against the threshold,
And pushed it back, making his hand scold.

"Ah!" he yelled, noticing how hot it felt,
"What kind of door is this?-- I could melt!"
He heard his lover telling him to leave,
But he refused to such a cowardly relief.

"I don't want you to burn", she said.
And he replied: " Well I don't care,"
" I'm getting you out of there so don't shed"
"Any tears over this affair."

"The Count of Dreary Meadows will kills us both," said she,
"If he finds you and me, trying to break out of misery."
"I know, I know," replied he," just leave it all to me"
"I'm here to end our misery and take you back-- free!"

Just then the Count came in, and yelled some obscenity,
"Get out of here you horrid little beast",
"Take your hands away from the door-- what's your identity?"
"I'm Romeo and she's my Juliet, and I came here not to be deceased"
"But to take my love back to the East."

"What?" he asked, confused,
"Haven't you read, count?" he replied,
"Juliet is the East, the sun, and everything fused"
"Under the glorious light of the sun!", he cried.

"I'm sorry, I'm not up on Shakespeare," he replied,
"But you still can't have your love-- goodbye!"
"Goodbye?" Romeo asked,"I'll say it after I take my love and watch you die."
But then a loud, yet, gentle cry came in with the tide.

"No!" said Juliet, breaking down the door,
"There will be no dying here, this is not a tragedy!"
"This is my life and its Romeo I adore!"
"So get out of the way count, I don't want a war."

The Count of Dreary Meadows was hurt and vanished into black smog,
That flew out the window, leaping like a black frog.
Juliet was now free to fly and love to her heart's delight,
"Well," she said, " I'm just happy its over, and we didn't have to fight."

Romeo laughed and said, " baby, i ran across the sky"
"And to get here I did have to fight."
"What I'm glad about is that this story ended on a high"
"Because we didn't have to die."
