Polite and Intimate Strangers

by sibyllene   Jan 22, 2008

I had a dream last night
where I crossed your path
somewhere on a corner that was
dusky bright and filled with carnival movement

I saw your stolid apathy
you saw my stopped-up words
we looked through each other
(my eyes were foggy with memories that threatened rain)

we passed on

leaving nothing more substantial than
the imprint of a leaf
on wet pavement.

I don't know how to heal.

    Heartbreaking.
I am truly speechless. Wonderful and overwhelmingly sad in the same time. I haven't read a piece that touched me so much in a while. I can relate to this in a way and really can't express how much I like it. Amazing, excellently written, and the ending line is simply superb and endlessly effective.
I am not able to express everything I felt while I was reading this, but I am in awe, truly impressed with depths of your poetry (as always).
    Keep writing!
