Anthem

by walter purvis   Jan 22, 2008

I have loved you in so many ways
I have loved you with my eyes the first time I saw your face
I have loved you with my ears when you spoke softly
I have loved you with my lips and with my touch
I have loved you when your perfume filled the air.

I have loved you with my heart and my soul
I have loved you in my dreams and in my arms
I have loved you with every breath in my body
I have loved you night and day

I have loved you in the early morning light
I have loved you in the heat of the day
I have loved you in the dead of the night
I have loved you every second since we met

I have loved you in my tears and in my joy
I have loved you in my poems and in my songs
I have loved you when we are together and when we part
I have loved you the memory of you

I have loved you by the sea to the sound of gulls
I have loved you in the forest to the sound of the wood pigeons
I have loved you in the mountains to the sound of the eagle
I have loved you in the cornfields to the sound of the crows

I have loved you walking through the snows of winter
I have loved you in the freshness of spring
I have loved you in the summer rain
I have loved you walking through autumns’ patchwork carpet

I have loved you when the moonlight has turned your hair to silver
I have loved you when the sun has kissed your golden flesh
I have loved you when the early morning mist has kissed your brow
I have loved you when the twilight has thrown its soft shadows

I have loved you with every emotion a man can express
I have loved you with my body with fire in my soul
I have loved you with every ounce of strength I have
I have loved you in the after glow in the stillness of the night
