Luckless Lover

by Weeping Wolf   Jan 24, 2008

Luckless lover

Fingertips caressing skin
white rose petals lost in the wind
their flowing down the sidewalk
fleeing away from me and you.

you took my hand and stared into my eyes
clever trick to which I despise...
you tried to dance with me in the schoolyard
and I tried to pull away...

You held my hand in a crowd
swinging and swaying playfully
my gaze tragic, my eyes in a shroud.
Your not who I want.
And you don't want me.

So why do you do this?
At least we never kiss...

I am a luckless lover
I am a tarnished dream
so soon so frayed at the seems...
There was never any "us"
There was only an "almost"
and yet...still it seems...
Why can't you just let me be?
No promise to me you did make
Then why this feeling of heartache?

I cannot wander in the park
I cannot walk the streets at dark
I cannot live my life every morning
with you there always by my side
Even when I turn my back on you
my eyes look back, images in my mind.

I am a luckless lover
I am a tarnished dream
can't you just let me be?
No matter how much I pull away
You always hold me too tightly.
But you don't want me...
You don't want me...
And your not who I want.

So why do you...why do you..
why do you do this...never kiss...
So why do you...why do you...
Why do you do this to me?

this is beautiful... i love the refrain. there is one thing i would suggest, though. you spelled some of the words wrong for their meanings :)

Oh dear... this is so sad. not true either, i hope. It is a wonderful write, however. :) I tend to read sad poems very slowly, and when I do, you can really feel the raw emotion in this piece. Well done, wolf!! :)
