Dear Darren the fact that nana " gives up her time to host the contest" dose not qualify her as a judge.
see here everything is personal. It has nothing to do with her judging ability how much she sacrifices or etcetera .
I have never denied any of those qualities.

In answer to Larry I said if she is not a judge then everything I wrote hold no water but right after she said she used to be a judge so we continued.

Right but she isn't now.. and hasn't been since she started hosting. I hosted before her and she was a judge then, and she did the same thing I did, she would nominate poems and then not vote for them. lol.

David implied only friends nominate/comment etc earlier, and I was pointing out that that's not always the case. You and I aren't buddy buddy, but when it comes to poetry that doesn't really matter, because as a poet, I appreciate you. We don't have to see eye to eye otherwise..

LP, that's not what Britt was saying. She was saying that the people (you and Nana) certainly aren't kissing her ass, and she can tell because you've argued plenty in the past, so wouldn't be praising her out of bias. It was actually rather complimentary - she was saying that you praised her because you liked the poem, not because you were friends.

This thread is pretty stupid. You're never going to have the same taste as everyone else, and that's something that people have to get over. On this site, the standard we've set is that if you have a certain number of praised comments, you are "qualified" to nominate and judge. That's it. We set an absolute, flat standard so that there is no room for picking judges on a case-by-case, biased basis, and so that we don't have to have this stupid argument every week. You want to argue about what's good poetry? Fine. Do it in the fricking comments; that's what they're there for.

Stupid is stupid to say so and if your judgment are not on case to case basis what then the base of judgment is?? each poetry is unique individual . you have to judge them as one!!

what is common sense then?? who ever practice a little common sense could be the judge of that that poem has no place in the nomination list. now you can politic up everything and say it is her judgment. It is not a controversial or complicated case. it is an absolutely obvious wrong one! it is a kindergarten one ( in my opinion) ( not writing it but nominating it) you would say it is the mater of opinion I say you are wrong it is the mater of common sense.
And creating the environment that nobody dare to point that out. that is even more wrong!

Real Meaning: Common sense is your prerogative, but you have to realize that "common sense" is far from commonly-held. This is a case where it ultimately comes down to subjectivity.

I'm not saying that the poetry shouldn't be judged on a case-by-case basis. It is. I'm saying that deciding who gets to nominate isn't decided case-by case.

I would rather participate in a site where people are free to nominate poems that I don't like, than to have to decide on a case-by-case basis who exactly is worthy of judging poems, and which are the only poems worthy of judging. We can't do that (and I wouldn't want to) so it becomes subjective.

I think that Marcel Duchamp's "toilet art" is stupid, and I'm allowed to say that. But I'm not going to say that anyone who disagrees with me had no right voicing their opinion.

I'm basing my assumptions on the fact that art is subjective. You don't like the poem. Fine. Nominating it doesn't mean it will win. That's why we have a judging system in place. It's imperfect, but that's how it is.

What you saying do not hold any water because if you loosen the belt of your objectivity too much, you can have no criteria at all and your trouser would drop down. The relative ness of objectivity is relative in itself and it is to the same extend of being definite. There is always a certain extend, a gauge pattern, of objectivity that could be applied.
Those urinal art objects are made by professional artist who have been in university and their objective art still have so much background of science and professionalism in them. But in your idea of objectivity there is no criteria what so ever, no rang; any thing could go, who are we to judge, the subject of art is always objective?!
Then according to that, any child could come up with random chaos and call it art.
This as we both know is not the case
