Janis??

Is there anywhere where we could see the comments our favorites give to other poems?

The old news feed used to have that and I admit that I enjoy it. Sometimes the comments given from my favorite authors to other unknown or known authors used to draw me to read the poem XD

I searched for that option in "what's new" but in latest comment, I only see the comments given to me.

I think it's malware....but I can't seem to get rid of it. I've scanned the computer using AVG, Microsoft and some other thing and they all come back clear.

When I sign in to the site everything is fine but, as soon as I click on anything that's when the popups come...just now I've just clicked on the thread "Janis?" and here are some of the popups that appeared..there were more but they redirect to other URLs before I get a chance to read them all.

    adsbydnsunlocker/appleiphone?/adnetwork12/reimageplus/adex change/ladbrokes/clickograph/boreholeelectronics/reimage repair/windows driver repair.

I also get a voice warning saying my computer is infected with inspyware and I must call a number immediately to fix it...a scam I know.

It only happens when I sign in here and only since the site changed over so that's why I think it's connected. It's very frustrating as you can imagine...think I'll need to take it to a computer shop or throw it in the bin :(

Also, I can't get on to the "Your Man...Donald??" thread which I started so I feel bad that I can't read or respond to anyone....sorry guys.

    EDIT

Also...when I sign out..one hour later or more I still look like I'm still signed in..

I have no Idea if this was already addressed but it appears that there is no direct link to take a user to their quotes..or to find old forum posts a user has made.

Hellon: try a higher end antivirus like Kapersky or Trend Micro.
I'm also showing your situation to Janis just in case

    Luce & others:
I agree, comments by favorites is important

Saphirix: under your name (the sillouette icon on mobile) the drop down menu link "manage you texts" takes you to your poems & quotes - "manage your quotes"

Search capabilities is on the ASAP list

Hellon, Kevin has a Lenovo and I have a Mac. We both use a Google Chrome extension called Ad Block. It's free (at least in the U.S.) and it works really well. I never have a problem with ads.

    Janis suggests the following site:

    https://malwaretips.com/blogs/ads-by-dnsunlocker-removal/

He also suggests that you take the computer to a pro to get the adware removed as it can be tricky.

One thing I'd like to see revamped is the forums. I think it would be much better to have 3-4 active forums. Actually, maybe even just two forums: A members message forum/non-poetry talk, and a poetry discussion forum. I imagine it must turn newcomers off when they go to the forums and see half of them haven't been posted in in months. There hasn't been enough traffic on the site to sustain 10-12 different forums since about 2010. Having just 2 forums would be easier to keep tabs on and people would be more inclined to post more often I think as they would be more active. I know that in its current format I never check any other forum except for the members message one.

Colm - completely agree! I suggested weaning down the forums to Janis a couple of months ago and how I would go about doing it. More recently, I believe Larry has mentioned it to Janis. We will see! Fingers crossed the next changes include bringing back awards and cleaning up the forums.

Larry...I've had my computer in for repair, had it cleaned, adware removed Norton installed. All the popups have gone but I can no longer sign into my account. A box drops down to tell me my session has timed out and please retry. The same message comes up each time. I even tried creating a new account but a very similar message appears. I'm on my daughter's computer just now and everything's fine so it appears that the new software is blocking me from the site for some reason. Seems one problem has been solved and another started. I'm not sure what to do?

I can still read the forums without signing in on my own computer so any suggestions will be most helpful.

Is it possible for new posts/replies to be placed at the top below the OP and thus replacing the descending order of posts by an ascending one. I personally find it distracting to scroll down or jump to other pages to see the last updated post.

Hellon, if your fix did not work, try this solution:

    Allowing Specific Websites with Norton
    1. Open the Norton anti-virus product, click the "Family" icon and log in to the Supervisor account using your Norton ID and password.
    2. Click "Settings" and then click the "Child" picture icon.
    3. Click "Web" in the left pane and then click "Specific Web Sites to Allow."
    4. Enter the URL of the website you want to unblock in the "Enter a Web Site" field.
    5. Click "Add to List" and then click "OK" to unblock the website.

Thanks Larry....I'm going to paste this and keep in just in case :)

Now I have time to actually tell you the events leading up to this. I lost my telephone and internet connection in the week that the changes were made. When I managed to finally get a technician to come out (living in a rural area is a nightmare for this) and came on to P&Q I was totally surprised and overwhelmed that so much had changed in that time. I decided to look around the site without signing in and that's when the popups first appeared. Every other site I visited was normal. When I did sign in and tried to click on any topic I was either booted off the site or redirected to something totally different which was very frustrating. Trying to navigate a totally new layout was bad enough but having all these other distractions was very frustrating and overwhelming to the point that I very nearly deleted my account. As I said, I did take my computer to an expert who fixed it up but, when I got it back yesterday my grandson was taken into hospital and I didn't have the proper time to check everything out. All I knew was that I was getting a message saying my session was out of time. It wasn't until this morning that I realised the computer tech had wiped out google chrome and I was back using Explorer...it was simply a matter of re-installing chrome to get back on.

I still don't know what caused the pop-ups to appear in the first place or why it only occurred when I opened the new P&Q ..I'm just glad to be back so...thank you all once again for your help.

Now a question....I still appear to be signed in an hour or more after I've signed out. Has anyone else noticed this? Just think it could create a problem for the mods if they 'appear' on line and a member pm's them and they don't answer because they're not actually there.

    EDIT

Sorry (and forgive me if it's been mentioned before) I've just noticed that the club a member belongs to is no longer shown on their profile...is this a temporary thing...something that Janis has still to add??

O I have noticed this thing too. Even after logging out, my profile name appears in the members on-line list...for sometime. It happened before also sometimes when the changes weren't made.

Hey Hellon, If you click on your name in the upper right hand corner and scroll down to Manage Your Texts, it will bring up your poems. There is an edit button on that page. Hope that helps.

I had not noticed. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Clubs are not fully up and running at the moment. I believe no one can apply to clubs temporarily, and I'm not sure if Janis intended to bring back club membership listed in profiles, but I think he should. I'll ask.

This thread has reached 100 posts. This is still our limit until we discuss in the mod forums if the rule needs an adjustment.
