Films that should never have been made.

List no more than three films that should never have been made and give a proper reason for each one. 'It was crap' does not count.

    Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions:
It was utterly pointless spending that much money on two films that deserved to be nothing more than a tv series. Would have been much better suited to the small screen for cult fans to look forward to each week for three or four months. As it was the two films were a waste of seat time in the cinema. it was an exercise in digital effects that could have been done so much better on a smaller scale (Example: Colour bleaching in Band of Brothers.).

    Alien Resurrection:
I'm an avid fan of the Alien series and even though Winona was cute as a button I could see no reason why this should have even been made. Michael Wincott was wasted in a role far beneath him and I could see it being a money spinner and special effects excercise rather than being a film made for entertainment purposes.

House of Wax (the remake, i can justify as a supposed "horror" flick with poor character, even worse dialogue that couldn't convince me to believe, and (as i've stated before) Chad Michael Murray tries too hard to be a bad ass).

That's the only one i can think of right now...

    Psycho:
The film industry, struggling to come up with material that is both original and good, has been overly relying on remakes and sequels. Instead of taking a mediocre film and remaking it into a good film, the studios too often choose a film that was excellent to begin with. That is why most remakes turn out to be no match for the original. There are some things that should simply be left alone.

Just the idea of remaking Alfred Hitchcock’s classic masterpiece, Psycho, was absurd. After 40 years, the original film still stood up well on its own. The idea that it could possibly be improved upon was just as lame as an attempt. would be to produce an improved version of Rembrandt’s Portrait of Titus. For the remake, the film makers set out with lesser actors and a director with nowhere near the creative genius or attention to detail that Hitchcock possessed. The result was simply a poorly produced, lackluster imitation that was rebuffed by both critics and moviegoers..

And the Oscar goes to Lydia! So true and well spoken! Psycho never should have come up when Hollywood was looking for movies to rehash.

RE: House of Wax, mentioned above by JustAri & Nikki --

This year’s release of House of Wax was actually the second remake of that movie. The story was changed significantly and the film didn’t come close to measuring up to either of its forerunners. The original was made in 1933 and its title was “Mystery of the Wax Museum.” The first remake was produced by Warner Brothers in the early 1950's and re-titled “House of Wax” This version is definitely worth watching if you have a chance to see it shown in 3-D.

During a short time period then, the studios produced a number of 3-D movies which required viewers to wear disposable, polarized lenses that were supplied by the theaters. It was a sort of gimmick that the movie industry came up with in an attempt to compete with television entertainment. Unlike other 3-D movies then that simply tried to rely on effects alone, House of Wax was a film that combined 3-D effectswith a gripping, suspense filled plot and some fine acting and art direction.

    Heh. The Grudge.
The story was okay, haunted house, ghosts, girl staying in haunted house with ghosts, but I mean, hey, the movie itself was sucky and what else? Oh yeah, she died in the end. How charming, hmm?

This film is just.... I can't even find a word to describe how much this movie sucked. It just sucked. I feel insulted too, since it was made where I live. =( DON'T RENT IT. =)

the village, pitch black, blair(sp?) witch 2

just a couple of the dumbest movies i have ever seen! they were pointless and stupid.

  • Bret Higgins

Thanks to Lydia for a well thought out and reasoned response.

In response to Pitch Black: It was highly original did not rely heavily on special effects, focusing more on what you couldn't see rather than what you could. It was made for entertainment not as a pure money spinner and the acting was throughout was commendable.

As well made as the Chronicles of Riddick was that was a pure money spinner and has less grounds for keeping than Pitch Black.

Vagabond, I agree that 2 minutes of Matrix revolutions was worthy of the silver screen, Monica Belucci's cleavage (seven feet high on the big screen no less) was worth the entrance fee alone.

I bet that if you knew the Matrix was being made into a series you'd set alarm clocks for it. Did you see all of The Animatrix?
