Reporting stolen poems

I was just wondering, when you report a poem, how do you know which one is the original? Or if any of them are original? Do you check the date it was posted or what?

Because I used to see heaps of the same poem when I first started coming to this site and I didn't know which ones were written by who! Anyway, yeah, just wondering.
