What are your thoughts upon the book (or movie)? Did they change your first idea for religion? Is it still the same?

This is a touchy topic but its bound to come up in the near future. I've been a Athiest (This defintion of my 'religion is easily confused... an Athiest is someone that doesn't believe in anything at all. They just take life how it goes.) I've been a Athiest for a little more than a year, but I read this book early this year and it really did push me further into my Athiesm, if thats a word. I mean it really and truely questions your faith... and for someone to say it didn't at all, I think they are lying.

Everyone is going, "How can a Fiction book change somene's view of religion?" Easily, I say. This book was based on real facts and how can somone not have doubts on this? I mean this book is totally against what Christians or any God-Praising culture has been learning their whole life.

They state in the book that Mary and Jesus was 'married' or intimately envolved with each other. There is evidence of it. No one is for sure of it... but there is evidence. And all what they showed in the book about that subject, it gave me enough to believe that it MIGHT be true.

I could go on forever about this subject. But its not only the book that changed my view... but also the road they revealed for me to take. I did alot of research after I read the book and I found more stuff that they didn't even state in the book.

My mother has brought me and my brothers up as Christians. Although my brothers accepted this, I rebelled against this when I was 12, and have ever since fitted into the agnostic category. I question everything to do with religion, but have never formed an opinion for or against.

When the Da Vinci Code came out, I couldn't wait to read it. And I was not disappointed. It opened up so many new questions I could ask. It didn't change my beliefs in anyway, but it made my questioning stronger, which is great.

As for the movie not living up to the book, I have to disagree. The movie IS the book. They haven't added any stupid action scenes that shouldn't be there, and even avoided creating a cheesy underlining love story, which I was greatly relieved about. The director and writers have barely changed a thing.

The book did not change my idea on religion. I am a christian and we were having this two week study in church about the book. Did you know that the bible is the oldest copy of books. And there are more copies or the original bibles than any other book. Crazy>) But no Da Vinci Dode did not change my religion at all. I believe everything I was taught.

Well I must say that The Da Vinci Code was a very well written book, an incredible story, and posed some very deep religious questions.

I quite honestly have failed to see where it couldve hurt my beliefs in the first place. Certainly, the fact that Mary Magdelaine (I think thats how you spell her name) were a couple was a big part, but it didnt destroy my belief, but rather strengthen them. The fact that Jesus was even more human is a wonderful thing to me, cause thats waht Jesus of Nasareth was, God's son on Earth, and that meant that he was human.

I must say the book weakened my faith in the early church though. The fact alone that they tried with all their might to demean women is terrible. Certainly, Im not a big fan of the early church (the roman catholic church nowadays) anyhow, not to offend anyone. I mean (BIG SPOILER ALERT) the fact that a nun actually was helping the Priory in thie story is big (in case you forgot, the nun who helped them by warning them that Silas was looking for the key). This shows overwhelmingly that the novel doesnt attack Christianity in any means necessary, but only certain branches of it. Keeping in mind everyone that Dan Brown not once put down the christian religion, but he put down how it was created as an organised religion.

I (just a theory) came to the conclusion that the Priory of Sion is christian. Afterall, was it not their responsibility to keep the Christ family tree safe.

Faith is always a big discussion, because by definition it means belief without evidence. Its like knowing that theirs something on the other side of a wall, but not actually knowing whether or not its there, but having faith that it is.

Now im just rambling on, so I suppose Ill stop. Ive yet to see the movie and I hope its good. Remember that before you make an opinion about christianity, or any religion, or anything at all, figure out what its about. Christianity (this is mostly the new testament, second testament, whatever) is about love and forgiveness and living together in humanity, and I hope people can come to the realisation that the Da Vinci Code doesnt hurt that belief at all.

Well how do we know the Bible was actually written by God? Thats what I question the most. I mean we do know that Jesus was real - and he did preach about 'God', but how do we know the Bible is just something man created in effort to tame people from sinful acts? We don't have any proof some being greater than ours did this, or even exists, and we don't have any proof those miracles in the Bible or all those stories happened.

There are Scrolls of stories that show what really happened in those times... and isn't it Ironic that it is clearly the opposite than what the Bible says?

To me, Religion is just a hoax. Jesus was insane. The Bible was created so Man would do good things and as a Bribe, "If you do this, you'll go to Heaven." You know? Thats what I believe.

Though, I respect what people believe. I think its great they can put so much trust into something and no nothing about him. I just don't believe in anything...

The Book is fiction it is based on a passage from the Bible that states ''Then Jesus kissed Mary Magdalene.'' The lost Gospels are what you should be reading. Not a book created by a man that claims himself it is fiction.

I really, really liked the book, it kinda made me interested in the history of religions. I also heard that the movie wasn't really what people exspected it to be, but some of my friends saw it and they liked it, so I'm gonna watch it, when I have time... :)

Well, i read the book and i saw the movie. The movie in my opinion was horrible, but i really enjoyed the book, obviously it made me question at first, but I've been a devoted Catholic since birth, and a book (except the bible) is not going to change my views on my religion. It was a good theory and he presented it well and i really liked the way he wrote, but i just didn't believe it.

I now weve probably passed this in the discussion, but this is a response to what MemoirsofMe said.

First of all, im not entirely sure you know what the Bible is all about, and what happened aroand that time. You need to know that the Bible wasnt written by God, but by people who experienced God, or who were told what to say through God. The Books in the Bible were chosen by the early church through prayer. Scrolls found from that time (im assuming youre reffering to the Dead Sea Scrolls) are no more accurate than the Books in the Bible. Also, there are contradictions within the Bible, so you dont need some scrolls to show that.

I must say, although I probably seemed the same. You sounded really cocky when you said that. And even though you say you respect other peoples faith, you said that Jesus was insane, and that right there hurt me a great deal, which shows no respect.

I thought the book was really good and for a while i believed it, but then i think i still believe in god and jesus and all that because with all these bibles and stuff written...its pretty stupid to believe just one book...although Dan made it seem soo real and the book was soo exciting!!!,...I thought the movie wasn;t that goof though....For one, it was way too long and then they twistewd some of the things and i found myself yawning and bored..:(:( It was kindof a disappointment:(...oh well, it was really worth while reading the book:):)

The Da Vinci Code is fiction it is false!!! Anybody who believes it is true is a fool! It didn't change my belief in anyway because i know the real truth! I think that its not wrong to read or watch the da vince code but i think it is wrong if you believe it! And people who do believe it is real just tell me is there any proof that it is real where do you get the proof. It might of changed my belief if it was believablke at al you could tell it was fiction! I am a christian and i always will be if someone sticks a gun up to my head and shoots me if i say i believe in God i would get shot!!! My religion means a lot to me! And i dont care if people make fun of me! But i am just saying the book was pretty good for a FICTION book!!! (NOT REAL)!!!! I havent seen the movie yet. Is it like the book?

I was an athiest when I read the book, but after I read it, I became a Christian. I know as a Christian, I am supposed to be all against the ideas that the Davinci Code presents, but I actually think it's an awesome book! I guess for some people, this book is offensive because it doubts and questions their religion, but to me, it's a typical story that has both a conflict and a solution. It's all up to the reader to decide what the overall message of this book is.

Being a Christian, I thought I would be offended by the book because of some of the things people were saying about it. But really, I wasn`t offended at all. I know it doubts my religion and such, but it`s just someone`s opinion. I really enjoyed the book very much- by far one of the best books I`ve ever read.

I don't think Brown is as good as writer as he is a story teller. The book wasn't oh-my-god-amazing as some people make it out to be. But it wasn't bad at all. Has any one read Angels and Demons, It's much better.

I've read the book 3 times and I've never seen the movie, don't plan to. I've never been much big on religion becuz I was forced into it, but in my opinion, it's a theory, and if not it's a dang good book.

As my mum says, it's fiction, take it for what it is and enjoy it while you can.
