I really want to be an author rather then a poet, but I'm really slow when it comes to my stories. My greatest that I didn't finish and have no intention to was 50 pages long, but I look at the idea and I wonder who would read it from a 13 year old... My other one is maybe 16 pages and I really like it, but I'm at that stuck part where I want to move the story into a big part, but I can't write the transition.

Every girl like me thinks they can be a writer, lol.

What Kind of stories do you like to write about?

i'm writing a book i got tons a crazy ideas that atleast i think are good but i'm too busy/lazy to keep writing i've been doing it for like 1 1/2 years and only have 10 pages, i usually only wirte on my plane trips to b.c. if i can't sleep. i want to get a laptop to make it all faster but when your money's tied up in other things (and by tied up i mean wasted on booze and drugs) buying a laptop not an option :(

i always hated those damn shortstorys in elementry school cause they set a max number of pages and my ideas were always big... if i had to write it for school i could finally do it

I want to be a writer some day, if not professionally as my career the certainly on the side of it. I have written hundreds of poems, several short stories and I have a few new novels in progress. I write about what I know and life really, but I do have a few fantasy stories too. I useually take life experiences of myself or others around me, change the names and a bit of the story and write off those. Good luck with your writing and keep with it!

    Of course I do.

But usually I just write fan-fiction...hum, well, I know that that lacks imagination, because you don't have to create your own characters, at least not the main ones, but you get to mess with the storylines that have already been created, so it's fun.

    My only advice is...

    Never give up.

I want to be a writer, but I'm only 14 so I might change my mind between now and college... My plan was to go to college and major in English, but my mom told me that she won't pay for me to go major in English in college, so I don't know what I'm going to do...

  • Sean Allen

I'd love to write a novel, but I have issues with getting bored with things after a week. So I have 100+ unfinished stories just sitting there in several notebooks. Then I try to write a short story, but over complicate it..... Well for now I'll just stick to poems until I learn how to commit.

I usually write short horror stories, but I'm trying my best to work on a book thing I started, I'm only 36 pages in, but slowly it's getting done. It'll probably be 150-200 pages when I'm done. I didn't want it to be that short, but it's hard for me to get going...

I want to write more than anything I can possibly think of. Writing is my greatest passion. I love it. It's therapy for me. I write poetry (around 20 in the past year...not that many, but still) and I am currently working on a couple of different stories, the main one is about 25 pages, but I haven't worked on it much, so that's pretty good. I'm really passionate about my writing, and even if my stuff starts out happy, it will always end darkly, because if you think about it, every road leads to death. Plus I love coming up with character names. My friend came up with this name in a story she wrote, he was one of the main characters and she called him Irone. I just love that name for some odd reason. My favorite of my characters is between Zach Omindias and Darek Wratterman. Lolz, I'm a wordy person, so having a big vocabulary rocks.

I am going to study writing in university.

Once I am out of there, you will all bow down.

Lol, I kid. I won't be THAT good. In fact, I'll probably suck, but you shoould buy my books anyway! YEAH!

Graphic novels are feature length comics.

People discount their worth because of the stigma that goes with comics but many graphic novels are amazing reads.

Sean, don't just focus on graphic novels from the ground up, write full length stories first then turn that into your vision.

The difference between novelists and 'wannbe' novelists is that a novelist will write a story based on a premise which has a start, middle and end.

Wannabe writes have plenty of ideas but lack the determination/courage/ability/will to finish what they start. Of the four determination is the most important.

Between me and my friend, we wrote an incredible story. It took two years to write, but it was worth it. Unfortunately, we'd never be able to get it published, as it's a comedy about various famous people and ourselves.

I'd love to write a serious book one day, but I don't have the patience. Besides, it isn't really my life time aspiration. Maybe it'll be something I attempt properly when I'm older.

I am taking English Lit & Lang in college though.

I usually shift between novel writing and an idea of being a screenwriter. I had a tv class for a couple of years where people really liked my writing, and my tv teacher said I was talented but lazy :p I won one award for screenwritng which isn't bad because it was the only contest I entered for that.

I have always loved to write. I use to always write short stories. I wrote a short story not too long ago. It was pretty good, I think. Lol. Might not have been so great.

But yeah. You aren't the only one who wants to be an author. :)

Ooow, oow!! *skips reading other's posts* I want to become a novelist!! I have ever since elimentary school, except for that one month where I was dead against it.

I tend to get to twenty pages, and then some thing happens like I get stuck, or realize the plot is horrible, and then I don't add to it. I've managed to finish like one un-shool related story (which I submitted as an school asignment anyway), and that was a 7 or so page short story based on a dream I had.

Serously freaky when you consider everything in it (the short story), from elves to a talking tree, to death, to some one carving into some one elses arm, the characters in there had some real mental issues or some thing.... I guess that's what happens when you try to put structer into one of my dreams.

before you even start to write a story you need to now at least three things.

What is the basic premise of the story?

Where and when does the story take place?

    How does it end?

Write those questions down and answer them with at least a paragraph. You now have the bones on which to put the flesh, heart and soul of the story.

*Pauses* I haven't done that for all but one story. Great advice though, and it actually sounds like what I did for one of my characters at a text based role-play site. He even has his own complex sub-plot involving multiple other characters and their sub-plots; he’s the best most complex character ever (that I’ve made)... The end is slightly vague, as I don't have total control over what happens to him, but I think I know what I want to happen.

It all comes down to murder, mind control, and an evil man in disguise, the same man that controls a large well-known army….

*evil laugh* (I control that evil man as well)

I will follow your advice. :)
