I just read it last school year for my English class. And I had to find out every abstract meaning the book had. So, look for symbols in the book that could relate to the people in the big. |

The book is okay. Your luck you only had to do it for summer reading. I did it in my English class and we hammered every symbol into the ground. It does end up having a good message and some of the characters are pretty good. I don't know, I think if I had just read it I would have a better opinion of it, but as it is I am not very fond of that book. |

Yeah, I read it once outside of school and thought it was okay (then again, I was younger and really didn't understand the trial part). But at school we had to know the symbolism for EVERYTHING. So, I despised it for that two months, but now I think it's an okay book. |

We watched the movie, and I thought Atticus sounded like the Twilight Zone narrator. Does anyone else think so? |

Yes. We had to read that book for school this year... Personally, I liked the first part. The first chapter was definitely boring, but the book just keeps getting better the more you read it. I would definitely give it a thumbs up. This was probably the best book I "had" to read. =) |

Also, as others have said... the symbols make a lot more sense at the end of the book. Things that seemed like no big deal really come into part at the end. And if parts don't make sense, spark notes gives you the 411. The main theme of the book is empathy. |

I read the book for English class last year. At first I thought it would be anothor one of those boring books. But I liked it. The way it focused on certain topics and the overall meanings was very well done. Their were loads of Symbols throughout the book as well. Haha, I remember that being hammered into my head. |
