Not a big fan of Industrial. Though I will lick up every last drop of Glam...Industrial's gay bastard step-cousin.

Hey, Glam was around for a million albums before Industrial even knew what it was.

That makes Industrial Glam's bi-curious androgenous nephew.

People think that emo and goth is original, but how many variations of black can you use?
Oh well, I like black, but not as an eternal color, I mean, I may feel depressive, but I like green too...

I suppose people become emo because they know what emo means... emotional, depressed, suicidal.
It's a call for much-needed attention, they need help.

No offense intended, just my views.

Still, anyone can be EMO. It means Emotional, so I'm guessing EVERYONE is Emo because EVERYONE has emotions. SO HA!! i cant believe someone can say they are emo while lost in what the media has made it, not for what it is. POINT? who cares. We are people, nothing more, nothing less. No label can change that. I hate labels anyway, and it bothers me that some people can say ' i hate labels' when THEY label themselves as Emo, Goth, Punk, ECT... i have been called 'goth' numerous times. Does anyone even know that 'Gothic' is just a kind of date/ style back in the 1700's? honestly. Some people need to grow up a bit more.

  • ms.understood

okay yea if u wanna get technical all ppl have emotions, but emo is a more emotional and more comfortable with emotion. ppl now are fake and as for what media makes it we were around a ong time before the media stepped in and theyve changed it and twisted us into being a 'fashion trend' but once this is all over with we will still be the same way we were before they got ahold of our image and how we still are now. all the preppies trying to follow us are are possers!

  • Emily

Emo isn't the "emotional" everyone thinks of.

It's the kind where you whine because you're girlfriend broke up with you so now you're going to listen to crappy bands and "relate to them"

I agree with Gypsy Inc. Labels are stupid anyways.

  • ms.understood

unless you were emom before this "trend" or you know someone who was, you most like dont understand us.
kind of off topic, kind of not, i just had to ask.
bret, ae you emo? just wondering.

  • AGirlWorthFightingFor

interesting, Bret, I really wouldn't be able to know enough about Industrial to know how far back it goes, thanks for the history lesson. but I believe Glam is the king and queen of androgeny.

and as for everyone being emotional...
    not alcoholics and post-modernists.

  • Bret Higgins

As a 29 year old married man I don't think I would get very far in life if I was emo.

Glam is indeed both King and Queen of androgeny and also the Viscount of zest, Marquis of soft porn and keeper of the word "OI!"

  • ms.understood

but see everyone has emotions. with alcoholics they FEEL like the strongest person and even emptiness and withdrawal is an emotional feeling.

  • Jordan

    Emo is a misconception.

I think that everyone should look up it's true definition, maybe then no one will ever talk about it again.

I think that everyone needs to stop talking about it.

  • ms.understood

um... the topic is emo. what are we suposed to talk about, cooking?

  • Lost†In†Eternity

i have a couple points to make:
#1: someone mentioned Hot Topic. Hot Topic has NOTHING to do with emo pplz.
#2: why the hell does anyone care whose emo and whose not...what's the big deal?
#3: pplz who call themselves emo ARE NOT emo...unless they are admitting something to a close friend, otherwise they are flaunting it...
#4: i have emo friends...it's not a fashion statement, it's a catagorization of people according to fashion and personality.
#5: every time pplz try to get away from the mainstream bullshit, everyone follows them...it's beginning to suck the creativity out of society...not that society deserves any creativity anyway...society shall be its own demise ^_^

  • Bret Higgins

#1: Hot topic, my mate works there and we often joke about the fop-haired little emo kids who live there.

    #2: you apparently (see 3).

#3: The prime minister says he's the leader of the UK... is this a lie?

#4: "it's a catagorization of people according to fashion and personality" and therefore a fashion statement.

#5: Which is exactly why emo is mainstream.

You are SO emo. (but according to rule 3 you cannot admit it.)

  • Lost†In†Eternity

#1: emos at hot topic are posers, posers suck

#2: call me what u will, but i refuse to label myself.

#3: we are not talking about titles, that is a title, we are talking about labels

#4: i didnt come up with these labels, some jackasses who follow societies every rule did, take that up with them. all i know is that fashion statements are mindless, and i, for one, am not mindless.

#5: mainstream needs to fuck off and let everyone do their own thing.

  • Bret Higgins

#1: Yes, emo does indeed suck.

#2: You label yourself by association.

#3: Granted. New example. The Sex Pistols called themselves punk. 'nuff said.

#4: Maybe, but it's still a fashion statement.

#5: Yeah, but you won't have any new fads that are not created by the companies for the teenage masses. Ergo everything you do is mainstream.

  • Lost†In†Eternity

#1: dont turn my words around

#2: im not associating myself with anyone or anything

    #3: The Sex Pistols suck

#4: anyone who thinks a lable is a fashion statement is an idiot...an ipod is a fashion statement, a classification is not. there are divisions of a classified group that can be broken down into fashion statements, but a lable is not a fashion statement.

#5: mainstream still needs to fuck itself, and society only excepts certain things for so long. after a while there will b some hardcore emos who will push it over the edge and then society will shun them and all their followers, leading to the extermination of emo-ness among the ranks of societies followers.

  • Bret Higgins

#1: I didn't, I simply brought the truth hidden behind the words.

#2: Yes you are. You said you have emo friends and show a knowledge of emo that squarely suggests you are emo.

#3: In your opinion they may, but that's not the point of #3. I'm right and you know it.

#4: All labels are fashion statements. Labels are methods of identification and involvement. You cut your hair a certain way, wear specific clothes etc. you put yourself in that position to identify with others. It draws attention to people who recognise what group you belong to and therefore is a fashion statement.

#5: There is no edge to fall off anymore. There was an edge, but bands like The Sex pistols, who you despise so greatly, blurred the line. There are no lines to cross any more, they have been erased slowly and surely and everything is acceptable (not exceptable) now. Emo will be around under one name or another as long as it is economically viable for the companies to keep churning the latest emo-t-shirt, emo-notebook or emo-eye liner.

Please define what hardcore emo is so I can understand.

    My theories:
It is just another group within a group who try to disassociate themselves from everyone else because identifying with a growing isn't good enough.

    Or

Do they wear more 'emo clothes', cry harder than anyone else has cried and buy the stripiest tights that ever did stripe?

  • Bret Higgins

Interesting idea, but individuality within group structures is what makes us human.

I don't think we're living apart, the arguments drawn in discussion proves a need to enforce our own ideas upon others and the basic requirement of other people in our lives.

I embrace the styles of punk, emo, goth, middle class cucumber sandwich eating, cricket playing dads and everything inbetween. It gives me a sense of my own individuality whilst giving me the oppotunity to make comedy at the same time.

for example, whilst it is true, stating emo being mainstream is funny because there will kids out there who flatly refuse to believe or even try to understand the point.

  • Lost†In†Eternity

#1: it surely didnt seem that way when i read it, and there was no truth behind the words, for the words were the truth.

#2: think what you want, i have no control over your thoughts

#3: i made the point of number three

#4: no, people who have not properly analyzed the situation at hand say that labels are fashion statements, and we arent clothes that need to be washed, so who says we need to be sorted?

#5: the lines have not disappeared, people just refuse to see them. and a lot of people are anti-emo, and unless the government is trying to cause contraversy within the ranks, then emo will die off because of something that either the government or the anti-emos will cause.

Hardcore Emo - your first theory is very much correct except for the fact that the group would be made up of tight knit friends who understand eachother wholly and completely enough to were they arent afraid to share any kind of emotion with one another.

and im completely sorry that i was typing faster than normal out of the excitement of a heated discussion. im used to writing except, for some odd reason, so i humbley apologize.
