Faith what does it mean to you

I have met some people on site who are devout Christians and I feel amazed by what seems to me to be a blind acceptance of their own personal beliefs in religion. They have no proof, hence it’s called faith. If there was proof people would have no choice but to believe.

I’m am a logical person; let’s say for instance I create the world and everything in it. Then I dictate that you must follow me and worship me. Or go to hell figuratively speaking. If I was god I’d feel like some sort of arrogant possessive control freaky. (No offence God…..waits for lighting bolt).

Finally let’s say you get to the end of your life and it is proved that either there is no god or another unconnected religion is right. Would you accept it or bury your head in the sand like so many atheists do to your beliefs now.

Please if you want to post stick to the questions and don’t form the usual lynch mob.

I am a Christian and faith means everything to me, myself and my family would not be where we are today if it wasn't for Gods blessings. I believe in Jesus, I believe he died and rose again. I believe Jesus is God. I know there is no proof there is a God but there is proof that Jesus walked the Earth . Of course not where I live because Jesus wasn't born into America. The reason I believe is because in my church I have seen miracles take place when my pastor has laid his hands on people, I have seen the power of prayer. I am not a Carnal Christian (one who claims to be a Christian but follows nothing of the sort)...I live my life by the bible.
As far as getting to the end of my life and seeing there is no God and another religion is right..I don't believe that'd happen. Have you heard of people who have had Near Death Experiences? Not the one where they are like "OMG I almost died"...those who have claimed to been to heaven but have been brought to life...They all have said the same thing in which the bible talks about...They see this bright light and feel this warmth....I don't know how I can't believe in the bible when things in it have been coming true
Regardless though, I have friends and family of all religions and I have the most respect for them as well.

So much for sticking on the topic. Someone shouts god and everyone pulls out their pitch forks and bibles.

I believe I would accept it. Although I believe I would find myself in hell were it to be true.

To the original poster since you are a logical person do you believe in coincidences? Do you think this universe was made by a coincidence? Can’t you see the sky above us how it’s not falling without something to hold it? Can’t you see how far the sun from us is and if it’s a little bit nearer we will be burn? Can’t you see the ozone is protecting us? Can’t you see how are mountains holding the earth? Do you think all this were made by a coincidence, give me a brake. Let me ask you, who created you? Don’t tell me you came from your mother. If this is your answer then, who created your mother and grandmother and so on… “We all came from Adam and eve” this is maybe your answer but the question is who created them? There is no way that all of this will be coincidence. If I was waiting someone then he came very late and I asked him why are you late then he said” I was coming to you but the bridge that was separating between the two cities was broken so I could not across the river then after 30 minutes I saw trees were cut by itself and gathered by itself then a rope came from nowhere and tight the trees and a new bridge was made so I came to you and it all happens by a coincidence” can a logical brain believe this. Some people don’t believe that after dying they will be reborn because they will be buried and vanish but in a logical way if someone create something then destroy it can’t he create it again, of course he can and it’s easier than the first time so even we died it will be easy to god to return us back to life. If you have more doubts and you really want the truth you can contact me and I will be happy to answer you.
    Sorry to have offended you.

Adel you don't offend my and thankyou for expressing a view.I do believe in coincidences.
If great great grandmother had't met great great grandfather then I probably wouldn't exist. Me existing with the genetic material I have is one of the greatest concidences. Maybe I might still exist but I would be a different person so I wouldn't exist in the form. I am proof of coincidence's and so are you.

Elisha i know you believe in coincidences but what if that condition happened to you will you believe it " i mean the man with the bridge" if someone told you that will you believe him?

you leave little room for people to voice the accual oppinions of faith...
i wasnt raised on belief of much... all mom said was there is a god. and left it to that... it wasnt until i was in around grade 5 till i new a little more about god and everything... and not until this year that i decided to look into christainity and get the story and everything...
well faith as you said is the ability to believe in something with having no proof.

    Sorry Bob I’ll elaborate.

Faith to me is the corner stone of religion, to believe in something you don’t need proof. You do need to believe it is more likely than the alternatives. No one has ever proved God exists or doesn’t exist hence faith.

My first paragraph is basically covers that premise. I know (like and respect) many Christians but find many try to convert me. Often they expect me to believe without being able to show me any solid evidence of why I should logically. Note evidence not proof.

My second paragraph sort of plays my belief that religion (man’s interpretation of gods will) is flawed. Religions tend to reward blind belief and condemn anyone who questions it.
I agree with your explanation; “Faith and religion are two different entities, religion is man made, created by those who wish to control people...Faith is a spiritual bonding”.
But would add Religion is man’s attempt to express faith, (it is a very poor attempt at times too) but that’s another discussion entirely.

    My third paragraph is concerned with blind faith and your answer starting at;

” whatever, if they are wrong,” I believe is one of the best I have ever read on site I agree totally and applaud the fact you can see you could be wrong as everyone could be.

“I believe that faith and whom we hold above all else is our own personal choice and should be kept as such” is a slice of wisdom you often don’t find.

Finally I believe you have answered my questions well considering you claim not to have understood. By the way Bob thanks for deleting my other thread, (I presume) after writing it I had second thoughts (hence my e-mail to you) it was too personal as such especially when you consider the age of people on here. I’d love to know your views on homosexuality too bob, but that’s probably a wasp’s nest on a web site lol

yes Elisha, a logical person will not believe that story because a coincidence can't make that to happen similarliy to the earth and the whole universe it can't be coincidence. so this the conclusion " for each creation there must be a creator"

  • Carrotgirl

Im sorry Adel but I don't agree with your reasoning. The main reason there is life on earth is that we have water source and are located at an idea distance from the sun, nothing more nothing less. I don't have a problem with you having a faith, who I'm I to say whats right or wrong. But I'll follow logic for now.

The faith that is a theological virtue is often confused with egocentric faith which is the belief that we have the ability to self suffice A necessary condition is one that must be satisfied for the result to happen. Breathing is necessary to stay alive; if you did not breathe, you would not stay alive. Breathing is not sufficient to stay alive, for if you did nothing but breathe, you could still die.

The human soul is still believed by billions of people to be immortal in this common era defined by many calendars

If you wish to prove that common logic is above faith consider these facts.

1.Our sun is not a particularly large star. Go out on the clearest night you can find and count the stars and give me the exact count

2.Prove to me the exact number of great great-great-great- great- great- great –great –great-great-great grandparents you have using the logic of math

3.List the things that you cannot see or perceive by at least two of your five senses that you believe could exist

Then you will know what common faith is.

In order to place a value on the other theological virtues charity and hope most must believe in something they cannot see

It seems to me, when I rely solely on common sense I get very common results

Some make the case that a common sense could lead to a common belief
But common sense seems to becoming scarce in the common-era because of the stigma human error has put on faith

Faith to me, is a belief in something I cannot sense but hope to be true regardless, like love for example.

i am not athiest. i simply do not know what to believe. i think that if "god' was the creator of the earth i do not believe he would make us follow wht could very well be lies. if theres proof i'll believe it. but i dont know what to believe. i think i'll konw for sure when i die.. and then i'll know what happens. =]

And now a quote from the santa clause

Neil: What about Santa's reindeer? Have you even seen a reindeer fly?
    Charlie: Yes.
    Neil: Well, I haven't.
Charlie: Have you ever seen a million dollars?
    Neil: No.
Charlie: Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean is doesn't exist
