Well. If your ancesters were Nazis, would you wear there symbol around school?

I'd like to point out, a made be disrespectful to students, as well as those on the streets. But it is totally u p to you. It's your heritage. Wear it with pride, and have it symbolize to you something more than its original purpose, and explain it to those questioning.

You raise an interesting question. In my opinion you should be allowed to wear it. The definition of what it has become does not stand for the intentions of the flag. Anyone who thinks that the flag stands for hate or slavery needs a history lesson. There were actually several flags used in the civil war by the southern states, this one being the only one that is reflected on in a hate manner. One of the flags looked too much like the American flag, another looked like the flag of surrender when it was not unfurled. And so on. But nonetheless the war was originally started for several reasons. The Confederacy wanted there own Southern States of America, and the North did not want that they wanted to share in the tariffs that were being brought in through the southern ports. Remember there were alot of blacks that fought in the civil war that were for the confederacy.
I actually wrote a poem on this entitled The Heritage of Dixie.
Furthermore, if they are to ban the flag in our schools and so on from clothing and such. Then why not ban the Malcolm X and these Gang related shirts with the singers/rappers/gangstas or whatever. They are a symbol of hatred and murder and belittle women and other races. Or is that stereotyping? Like I stated above, people need a history lesson.

i think that it is wrong. we are not united if we use different flags. the confederacy in my opinion is wrong but i cannot dissuade you if you are firmly for it. my thought is that though lee, jackson, longstreet and countless others fought for the ideal they lost. and it was general lee who tried hard to get his men and everyone in the south to sallute the american flag and do away with the confederate or rebel flag. it would be a blott on his character to even wave another flag.

Personal opinion: I think it borders on being an eblem of hate, very similar to the Nazi party as Kitty pointed it out, but on the other side, it IS a part of Southern heritage and although I have never visited there I do believe it can be a very strong belief or opinion of the people there. If they choose to wear it in their state, then it is their choice. If they are not hurting or calling out anyone then I think its a sort of freedom of speech issue which should not be violated.

It is part of my past as my sixth great grandfather was a Confederate Captain and helped to start the 'Sons Of Liberty'. But his nephew was a Private in the Union army. It was brother against brother with the Blue and the Grey. I have always been rebellious so I have mixed thoughts about it.
