An obligation to reproduce?

Ok this is weird but i was thinking about it this morning.

i said to my mum, "i don't want kids" and she replied, "it's a good job some people do otherwise they'd be noone left."

that made me wonder if everyone stopped having kids, of course they would be accidents and everything but if the majority did, would you feel obliged to have them to continue society?

random, but i hope thought provoking...

I do think that it would be a blessing if everyone stopped reproducing now...Seeing as we are virtually in the brink of overpopulation...

But in an ideal world, I would say that reproduction is an essential tool for us in continuing our species...

If you think about it, look at the endangered Panda...The Chinese Zoo, introduced a male speciman in order to procreate thereby ensuring their species does not die out.

Do you get my meaning...We are nothing more than intelligent animals.

I definately agree with your last statement, that indeed is what we are. however, why should they prevent the panda from extinction? (NOT MY OPINION) why should we intervene?

I would say Guilt...

They had a hand in their annilation, humans are the proponant factor in many animal's becoming endangered...

So I would say that it is guilt kicking in....

I don't know about all that, but i do know that no kid is a mistake. if i were a mistake i would hate to have to live with that all my life. i'm not mad but a new life, a new kid who can think for itself, it can cry, it can laugh.

Yeah, Children of Men was the first thing that came to mind...I think there will always be people who want to have kids though

If you don't want children that's fine you have no obligation to fill. Honestly, this world is choked near to death with too many humans. We could do with a few million less.
