Army Life

As some of you whom I talk to on here are aware, I wish to join the army sometime in the near future.

However, whilst talking to someone I used to work with, he asked me what I was doing now and when I mentioned what I wanted to do, he told me that I would be better of finding another career I am interested in because of the way you are treated in the army.

Now obviously, I understand that it will be hard to start with, I understand the disclipinary action and such, and that the officers yell a lot....but the way my ex-colleauge put it was that it was more than this, it was in actual fact a lot closer to bullying and even if I change my mind and want to come out within the first three months as I would be allowed to, they wouldn't let me.

Apperantly he knows this because his nephew was in a few years back.

Has anyone actually served within the forces? If so, can you tell me if he is exaggerating the facts, and what army life was like from your viewpoint?

Any help would be highly appreciated as I am actually already preparing for my first interview.

    Thank you.

I haven't served with the Army but I have a few Army friends and they say it's not as bad as everyone says. My Marine buddy however told me that the Marines are really as tough as advertised. I myself am deciding which one I want to join.

The military is not allowed to be extremely mentally of physically violent any more... they have to be carfull of peoples emotions and feelings now.. the only thing they can really do now is yell at you in your face and make you do push ups and stuff

    God I hate the army.
No offence, but it seems wrong to kill those people.
And everyone defends America, it's like, hello? Why do you think more than half the countries around the world hate us? Because we solve everything with guns, and justify killing, and we produce 30% of the world's greenhouse gasses.

I can't wait to get outta this hell...

As far as im concerned i will not join the army unless there is a real war going on to where if we lose its bad for us the people.... unless we are in a war like that screw it i am not joining the army just to be stationed not doing anything or fighting somethign that we do not even have to be doing in

ARMY is for our protection, not for our destruction :)

^ Actually the world hates America because America is arrogant. It's not that we solve things with violence. Every country has resorted to violence as it is the only way to achieve lasting peace. Look at WW2 afterwards Europe saw the longest peace in centuries.

I'm in the air force and deployed right now. i love it so much. yeah there aren't things you agree with but for the most part, the military is the greatest choice i could have made. the benefits alone are absolutely amazing. i don't know to much about the army but it cant be all that bad. i know the hazing in the marines is unbarable and i know the navy is soft. the air force is so incredibly nice. i would definetly recommend it to anyone (especially females) :)
