    DUE TO COMPUTER ISSUES, EXTENDED TO DEC 31!!!!!!
    Okay, this is the first contest I've ever run, but it should be a fun one. I will have twenty spaces available, so please reserve!!! Poems MUST be in by December 20th, and judging will begin the next day. Here are the rules:

    1. Pick a famous quote. Choose from any subject from any person from any time period.

    2. Try not to be explicit.

    3. POST YOUR QUOTE EITHER BEFORE YOUR POEM OR IN IT. Make it clear to me where the quote is!

    4. In your poem, CONTRADICT that quote, prove it wrong, or tell a story that "shows" it is not always true, and so on.

    5. Rhyme is optional, but if you have an unusual form, state it before your poem.

    Dead before death.

    Should you ever look me in the eyes,
    to tell the truth of death?
    Rot in hell my feeble brain -
    that's been dying for way too long.
    Shallow thoughts compromise words,
    that linger in my head.
    And, useless tears fall from the eyes
    of someone who never knew life.

    His memories sting as a bee stings air,
    burning sensations increase -
    with make believe fantasies inside.
    For, it's more than love that's got us down;
    but a broken up family without hope.
    I seen it in his eyes the day that we walked out,
    pain, confusion confined by loneliness
    without a word to be said.

    I can't seem to find answers that
    never leave my mind.
    They're drifting about the weakened likeness,
    compared to my word compromises.
    Firing up a battle within, fighting to win -
    don't die on me tonight, my darling father,
    though you died so long ago,
    deep within yourself.

    Inside you knew the truth,
    your pain would finally end.
    And, since no man can feel his death,
    he hides his sin within.
    But, the pain from all his past
    haunts his future doings;
    taking away the man I need,
    killing him before his death.

    "To himself everyone is immortal;
    he may know that he is going to die,
    but he can never know that he is dead:.:
    Was written on your stone -
    how on earth they thought of that?
    I've not a clue -
    for you were dead so long ago,
    just making your way through.

    - - - - -
    My quote was:
    To himself everyone is immortal; he may know that he is going to die, but he can never know that he is dead.
    - - Samuel Butler
