Dawn

** For A Contest **
** We were given a lyric to a song. And we had to include that lyric in the poem. Without having that lyric be the title. My lyric was "I'm reaching for your shadow drowning in the kiss of the dawn" **

Dawn arises and as we all hide,
Unable to bare the sunlight.
Yearning for the darkness the night can offer,
Our only light; the moon that shines up high,
The stars; our guide.

Dawn arises yet again and I am not alone.
I'm reaching for your shadow drowning in the kiss of the dawn.
I refuse to run back and hide.
For I crave your kiss.
Though it can kill me, I drown in the kiss of the dawn.

The sun slowly rises, covering the earth with light
And warmth as all the humans wake to the new day.
But yet here I stand, mesmerized by you.
Still drowning in your never ending kiss.

Though it can kill me, I stand.
Knowing the only way to see you is in the dawn.
For that is when you come out and play.
Come kiss me once before the sun rises.
So I may lay to sleep peaceful.
Basking in the darkness, waiting for the new dawn.
For your kiss is what I long for.
