In His Mind

by Deana   Sep 12, 2008

In his mind, the special kind
Voices call his name at times
No fear in place, never a trace
A smile upon his gentle face

Hand so meek, up to his cheek
Whispers "love you" in broken speech
A simple life, without the strife
The purest form of wrong or right

Gone away, a place to play
Where laughter fills his heart all day
In his own world, of boys and girls
Innocence of heart unfurls

Fix his mind, I wonder why?
Society feels they have to try
Leave him be, can't you see?
He is Gods lesson for you and me.

This is beautiful. Really, I love it. You captured the innocence so well, the emotion so heartfelt. Not only that, the rhytm was perfect. I enjoyed this very much.
    Keep writing!
Stay real, chin up, and take care.

Funny I should read this one now...I just had a 50 year old Down's "boy" as a patient last night and all I can say is what a joy! They are a true blessing to this world with their gentle spirits and smiling trusting eyes...well written Deanna !

    Deana,
You have written a truly remarkable poem about the children with special needs. Indeed they are our lessons for us to learn. If we could only open our eyes and minds to lessons.
As for the poem itself, I thought it had a great flow and a very powerful message. I don't know much about all the schematics of it all. But I thought it flowed very nicely and wouldn't change anything.
