The Gift of Christmas

by Poet on the Piano   Dec 23, 2009

Expensive presents wrapped in fabric
Striped candy canes swirling with taste
Circle about the lighted evergreen
Waiting to bring joy that one won't waste.

Yet the children will soon grow out
Of china dolls and wooden trains
And desire a life filed with envy
That dominates and entertains.

Materialistic goods bring joy
But not everlasting bliss
Their main goal is to tease
And make you whine and miss.

Many do not call me blessed
For I have no trustworthy friends
But over the years I have concluded
That faith and hope always mend.

My heart is no longer lonely
Nor regretful for ever living
For I was lost but now am found
And am in pure thanksgiving.

All I have is my loving Father
Lulling me to sleep in His right arm
He is where my soul lies
And is protected from evil's harm.

I do not wish for a home
With a fire burning inside
For Christ has given me love
And opened His heart wide.

All I ask for this season
Is for everyone to understand
That Christ is Christmas
And in Him love will stand.

For being the age you are, these words seem so mature and you are absolutely right with your message here. It's unbelieveable how many people are either blinded or do not recognize the true meaning of Christmas...I agree with Luanne -- no matter how one tries to get the message across, not everyone will be able to believe or understand it, which is kind of unfortunate but the truth. I agree with her completely, you shouldnt give up your faith though. You are one mature girl for your age, you should be proud of yourself for this poem. You used the power of your words to get a great message across. Its not all about the gifts, it's about who the holiday is truly about.

    Great work.

I find your writing a breath of fresh air. And your love for our Father beautiful and refreshing.
Though I don't believe in church(here where I live) because of the way it has become. Where they will not baptize your newborn unless you attend church on a weekly basis. Which to me is so very wrong as they are punishing the child.
I do not attend church because my belief is that I can talk to God anywhere. Whether it be before I go to sleep, while driving in my car or while in line at the supermarket. He always listens no matter where we decide to pray.

But enough of my blabbering ... lol

This is a wonderful write. And your faith is wonderful especially from a lady as young as yourself. It is not seen as much anymore as it should be. Which is sad but I do understand that every person has different beliefs and accept that.

Course my reply to people who say "How can you know there is a God, you can't see him"
Well I can't see air neither but know it is there.

All I ask for this season
    Is for everyone to understand
    That Christ is Christmas
And in Him love will stand.

Very beautiful stanza. But unfortunately no matter how much we try ... we will never make everyone believe nor understand.

But stay strong in your faith hun ... it is very refreshing and wonderful!

    Have a beautiful Christmas ~hugs~

Very uplifting message and one that needs to be told this time of ear.

All I ask for this season
    Is for everyone to understand
    That Christ is Christmas
And in Him love will stand.

    perfect ending for your poem.
"Jesus is the reason for the season"
    Great job!
    Take care
