In the Eyes of Hate / In the Eyes of Love

In the Eyes of Hate

Two humans shipwrecked on an Island
a possession in hand, held each
fearing death would soon approach
upon this lonesome beach

The woman, rich in fur and diamonds
clutched a shiny can.
Across her in tattered clothing
sat a lonely, homeless man.

Within his calloused hands
a trusty knife, held dear
his one and only possession
that chased away the fear

A hate for the rich and powerful
brewed beneath His breast
for he could see not, beneath the jewels
-'Twas the wealth he did detest

A hate for the poor and homeless
brewed beneath Her breast
for she could see not, beneath the rags
- 'Twas the poverty she did detest

Each held the answer
to survive another day
ignorance overcame reality
and for that, they both would pay ...

They did not die from the food without ...
They died from the hate within !

In the Eyes of Love

Two children shipwrecked on an Island
a possession in hand, held each
fearing death would soon approach
upon this lonesome beach

The girl, in pretty bows and curls
lonesome for her Dad
Across her in tattered clothing
sat a lonely, homeless lad

Within his dirty fingers
a trusty knife, held dear
his one and only possession
that chased away the fear

The girl clutched a shiny can
to her sobbing chest
for she couldn't open it -
is what she did detest

A love for the little girl
brewed beneath His breast
for he see not, the glimmer
of the way that she was dressed

A love for the little lad
brewed beneath Her breast
for she see not, the rags
but the -beat- beneath his chest

Each held the answer
to survive another day
bellies filled with laughter
they both skipped off ... to play

They did not die from the food without ...
They lived ... by the love within !

Omg Luanne! This time round, you've exceeded your limits again! First off, I have to say that I have NEVER come across a poem like this and I'm glad I took the time out to read it!!! I LOVED the way you wrote this piece, awesomely beautiful~
Next, I loved how you wove such a wondrous story like this from simple things in life which we might not have discovered or took the time to place ourselves in their shoes, or rather, see it from another point of view! One word: Speechless.

    Keep writing Lu!!! <3

This was absolutely fantasic Lu!!! It reminded me of my fiancee and I because I grew up without money and her family is really really wealthy. I was afraid to meet them because I thought they would look down on me but they were very accepting and it paid off for all of us because we have an amazing friendship/family now. You have to love the little things and life and see people for who they truly are inside, if not your missing out. Great message in the poem and just an amazing job 5/5 for sure
