Somewhere Between the Moon and Me (Free Verse)

by Ashleigh Skye   Oct 22, 2011

Lost in this darkened world,
I hold a compass that no longer points North,
and a map that leads to no where.
I walk in circles blinded, and untrusting
simply trying to find my way.
My North Star has long since burned out,
and the moon's rays only cease to taunt me,
guiding me in endless directions,
while glowing with the possibility of answers,
and secrets that I can't help but yearn for.
For somewhere between the moon and me lyes paradise,
a sacred place that I once held the key for,
a place where I was free to be myself.
I was welcomed in this place for better or worse,
and I thrived in that.
I knew the way by heart,
just letting the softness of the moon guide me,
while letting the North Star just do the rest.
Now without the shimmering light to guide my way
I find myself stumbling
tripping over my fears and intentions
and wandering farther away from my sanctuary.

For it's in the darkness I stay now
stumbling my way along the path.
because somewhere between the moon and me,
I was displaced.
