Listen To the Sea

by Ashleigh Skye   Oct 22, 2011

*this poem was written for a challenge where I had to respond to the poem "Oh captain, my captain" by Walt Whitman*

Rest in peace my Captain,
for your memory will live on,
the life you gave won't be in vain,
as we go forward towards the dawn.

The prize we have, in our hands,
is all thanks to the sacrifice you made,
and the orders you gave along the way,
a debut that will never be repaid.

And with our next mission upon us,
your voice will be heard in the crashing waves,
as your body sinks into the deep,
an honorable captain's grave.
